If not for my husband who is so into the history of his country, I don’t think me and my son would have ever seen or visited a battlefield. From the time we got here, he has been sharing with us what he knows about his country’s history which I find so interesting. And would you believe, even our 9-year-old son is so into it now too that his Dad’s books about war and history are what he always flips and reads.

This was our first visit to a battlefield. Antietam is located in Sharpsburg, Maryland, and we went there on our way back home from our trip to Baltimore to visit some friends and attend a baptism. 

I was amazed of how beautiful and vast the place is and it’s hard to imagine that the bloodiest day of American history took place on these placid fields during the Civil War. My husband toured us around the battlefield and told us the entire story of that day. He knew the history behind every statue and memorial at the site.
