I was never into sports when I was in school nor was I into watching sports until I got to the U.S. Well, I did watch NBA during my college years but only when my favorite Michael Jordan was playing (Go Chicago Bulls!) and that was it. Of course, my husband being a North Carolina native, when it comes to Michael Jordan his war cry was “GO TAR HEELS!” And my husband also introduced me and my son to his love of baseball, especially his favorite team the Atlanta Braves and he actually took us to Atlanta to see them play.
So, when my son showed an interest in soccer and told us that he wanted to try it, I was a little anxious because I do know the injuries or accidents that could happen. But I also know the benefits one can get from being involved in sports. Soccer develops speed, agility and stamina. It also teaches children the importance of teamwork. Those are just some of the things that play a part in our child’s social and physical development which I believe is very important. He’s participated in three seasons since he started, and after miles and hours spent going to practices and matches, here I am loving soccer to the fullest. So does my husband and our little soccer boy.
We had the last game for fall soccer over the weekend, and is there any better way to end it than with a surprise match between parents and kids? Yup, it was a parents versus kids day. Our opponent didn’t show and we didn’t have any idea why. The game was a make-up game and they probably got mixed up or something. Nonetheless, their absence surely didn’t make it less exciting.
It was cold but everyone was bundled up. Well, except for the kids. Some of them were even wearing shorts. I think being cold also has something to do with age, huh? LOL.
The husbands were the ones who played against the kiddos and us wives became the cheerleaders. Can you imagine how fun it was? The coach stood as the referee, and take a guess who won? The husbands, 3-0, and my hubby scored all three goals. And don’t think it wasn’t fair to the kids because the grown ups had never played soccer in their life.
The kiddos are given trophies at the end of each season. This is our son’s third season and there’s his third trophy – an awesome addition to his collection.
They always have a little celebration after the last game with pizza and drinks. This season though, they added cupcakes. Look how cute that cupcake is with that soccer ball toy ring our son was holding? It was delicious too!
And there’s our little soccer boy happily holding his trophy. He was so excited and overjoyed that day he exclaimed he is already looking forward to spring soccer.
We are all really loving soccer. It is always fun to watch the kids play and do their best. And this time, it was also fun to watch the adults play, most especially since my husband was involved. (“,)
Do you love soccer too? Is there any member in your family who plays it?
Masshole Mommy says
How fun! My kids never really got into soccer. Karate is their thing 🙂
I think karate is fun too. Our son actually mentioned one time that he wanted to try taekwondo. (“,)
I never knew anything about soccer until my daughter put in to join the recreation department soccer team! We are huge baseball and football fans, but soccer? Not so much! She lasted one season and switched over to softball which is indeed her calling!
We were not soccer fans either until our son joined. Hubby is a huge baseball fan and he got us into it.
I have to be honest. We don’t really watch soccer, and no one in the family plays it. It’s an awesome sport, we just never got into it.
I watch soccer if it happens to be on. None of my kids ever got into it, though.
What beautiful day to be outside playing soccer. Looks like your kids had fun!
Our son did have fun and so were his parents. (“,)
Look at that cupcake! Wowzer! My kids love playing soccer too. It’s a great sport and better exercise for them.
I totally agree! (“,)
How nice that each kid get a Trophy. Those cupcakes sure do look Yum.
Yeah, I love it that they get a trophy – a remembrance for each season.
My son’s done three seasons as well. We like soccer. 🙂 We don’t get cool trophies though!
We did soccer when my son was 4. He was more interested in the cars passing on the street, and any bug that moved. His career was short lived.
Too funny! He’d probably get into it when he’s a bit older. (“,)
One of the games during our urban adventure game was soccer and it was fun. Great that your son is involved with soccer at an early age.
I use to be a soccer ref when I was in high school! Love the sport ❤
Soccer was never my forte but I really think that my husband wants my boys to play. It was never really that big in my small town so I don’t know much about it.
Looks like so much fun. I’d love for my son to learn to play Soccor but he’s not into it.
Soccer is such a great way for little ones to stay active. It’s great that they give the kids trophies at the end of each season too 🙂
My husband and I are a hockey family! Of course, he plays professionally, so that might explain our love for hockey…
.My kids both played soccer when they were in school and it was terrific! My husband and I are still big fans to this day. We were in heaven when the U.S. team was in the World Cup this year.
Oh, we were in heaven too – watched their games and shouted to the top of our lungs whenever they scored. (“,)
I love ‘football’ (Soccer for you guys), its always fun but very tiring. I remember back in the day when I used to play it was alwars fun whether we won or lost
We love baseball too. We actually loved baseball first before soccer. (“,)
That is so nice! I can’t wait till my little boy started playing sports.
I’ll bet he’ll have fun.
Look at the cute cupcake. Soccer fan here.
We are huge soccer fans. My son has played travel soccer for years and now high school soccer. I never would have believed I would fall in love with a sport!
That is great! Good for your son.
hahaha..i guess we just leave the soccer games to the real players, although you still can be taught by your youngsters if you are consistent…
The only soccer we watch is the fifa world cup beside that we not into it. My hubby loves cricket.
How fun! I wish my girls were more into sports but they love dance! I guess you could say its a “sport” haha 😉
I loved playing as a kid for fun. However, I can’t watch on tv! Haha I get bored out of my mind. lol
It’s so great that he found an activity he really enjoys! Here’s to no injuries ahead for him.
Thank you, Liz. (“,)
How fun! I play in traveling teams as I grew up. I LOVE soccer.
I love soccer. I used to play when I was little. Hope to get my son into it
I love to watch soccer. I tried playing it, but I have two left feet. That doesn’t really work for soccer…
haha cupcakes! Love. I played soccer growing up and I wish there would be a bigger marketing effort to get kids to play this. Too many athletes here not to have the sport be more dominant. Fun times for the kids to have the parents be involved like this.
We watch soccer but we call it futbol. We play at the park with the kids for fun. I wish I would’ve played in high school! ^_^
My kids loved playing soccer when they were younger. It was always so much fun going to the games and watching them play.
we used to love going to braves games when we lived in atlanta. 🙂 i’m not really into sports, but jacob definitely loves it.. and i’m sure when we have kids he’ll want them to get involved.
My son loves to play soccer and has played since he was 3. He really enjoys it, the team work, the scoring goals, the fast pace – he just loves it and I know I really enjoy watching him.
I love the idea, I would love to teach my kid soccer rather than having a game console. Such a lovely kids!
Looks fun game. My kids doesn’t like to play soccer. Cute cupcake soccer 😀
I can get into any sport if I start watching. I get into each team and rooting them on. Sounds like you all had a great time!
As a european girl I’d go ohh yeah, soccer is fun and a great sport for kids. Even as a girl i played soccer, but just as a hobby. My boyfriend played soccer but recently he is more into american football. Since I see how dangerous can that be, i’d say my kid can play soccer, but never ever will i let him play american football…doesn’t matter how fun it is!
soccer is a fun game to play. It’s great to get the kids moving outdoors.
It’s great when your kids find something they are interested in. I’ve asked my daughter what she’d like to try but she hasn’t really shown interest in anything yet. We’ll see.
I never played soccer, but had many friends who did. I only ever played it in gym class, and did have fun when playing.
I like watching soccer. I’d love to learn how to play it.
I have always enjoyed soccer and kind of wish that I played it when I was younger. My son doesn’t share my love for it, though. 🙂
My kids both played soccer when they were young. I always insisted that they be involved in some type of physical activity.
Though I don’t play soccer, this intrigued me. The way you described it,I’m sure it’s really a fun-filled event. Fathers vs sons and moms as cheerleaders! Wow, what a great way for families to bond:)

I know, right? It was really super fun! (“,)
Ohh, we never played soccer, but that is awesome keep it up good career. Great photos.
Soccer was my favorite when I was growing up. I so miss it.
Congrats to him. I love the cupcake and the photo of him holding the trophy with the cupcake. Thanks for sharing.
Congratulations to your son! I bet he loves every minute of playing soccer.
