I came from a city that has more or less half a million population. So when I got here in the U.S., I was more than delighted to be in a city that doesn’t even have a quarter of the population where I came from. Yet despite how small this city is, there are gems in it. And the city I am talking about is Asheville, North Carolina. We live in the suburbs of Asheville exactly, but downtown Asheville is less than five minutes away. And the famous Biltmore House which is considered to be America’s largest home is more or less a ten minute drive.
It was in February, 2011 when we had our first trip to Biltmore. And after talking about the five must-see places in North Carolina, I realized that I haven’t talked about our second trip there yet. We visited the house for the first time a day after our wedding and visited it the second time around on our first wedding anniversary. And just like the first time, the house still captivated me.
It was in early February of 2012 when when we visited the house for the second time but we were lucky enough to enjoy a glorious spring-like weather that day. I bet you can see in the photos how beautiful that day was. And as usual, there were a lot of people enjoying the estate like us.
The facade of the house offers not only an amazing structure but also a fascinating architecture that you think you would only see in Europe. I felt like I wasn’t in the United States actually the first time I laid my eyes on the house. The inside is also amazing but taking photos are not allowed.
This was on the right side of the house where they hold concerts by popular artists around summertime. And although the plants were in hibernation during that time, the beauty of the mountains surrounding the estate is there to give you all the charm.
I forgot the name of this statue but it was a beauty. And there were many more statues to please the eye.
The Biltmore Estate is not just about the house. It offers a lot of exciting things for the whole family to enjoy too. They have their own winery and vineyard and hubby was more than delighted when they had a wine tasting that day. I am not a wine person compared to the hubs although I do drink red wine from time to time. I joined the hubs in tasting some of the wines, but it was the hubs who totally enjoyed it.
After the wine tasting, we strolled and explored the Antler Hill Village. This area is where the winery was located and they have restaurants and stores too. We had our lunch at the Bistro, and I am going to talk about it next time.
This time of year is one of the best times to visit Biltmore because of the spring blooms. The beautiful blooms of tulips and other flowers are a must-see.

I am ashamed to admit it, but I live less that three hours from the Biltmore House, but have never been there. I know, as a North Carolinian, that’s almost a blasphemy! I will try to get out there soon though!
