Ginisang Monggo or Sauteed Mung Bean is another popular Filipino dish and is one of my all-time favorites. To tell you, I can eat this everyday. I can also just eat the cooked mung bean with milk and sugar for snack and problem solved. I grew up doing that and whenever I do that, it actually makes me nostalgic because it was my favorite snack when I was a kid. And even now, my son enjoys it.
Aside from being a healthy dish, the ginisang monggo or sauteed mung bean is very satisfying and is budget-friendly as well. But you can’t find the monggo or mung bean in the supermarkets here in the U.S. The mung bean is of Asian origin and only Asian or oriental stores sell them.
I am thankful that my American husband enjoys this dish as well. He loves beans and although the mung bean is totally different from the beans that he was accustomed to having, he likes the taste and enjoys eating this dish.
Cooking this dish is very easy and simple. Except for the mung bean, you can find all the other ingredients at the U.S. supermarkets. I do hope that there is an oriental store near you because some of my friends had to travel hours just to get to an oriental store. 🙂
Enjoy!
