We made it through the weekend! We had a quite busy Saturday and a lazy Sunday. More often than not, it’s during those lazy Sundays that the husband and I get to talk in between watching a movie. We talked about a possibility of going out of town this Memorial Day weekend again. Since two years ago, we’ve made little road trips on Memorial Day itself or on Memorial Day weekend. The husband always has a three-day weekend so we make sure to enjoy the extra bonding time.
We went to this historic little town of Marshall, North Carolina last year and we went to Toccoa, Falls and Currahee Military Museum the year before. Although he kind of agreed to where I want to go, the plans are still indefinite. To give you a hint of where I want to go, they have something like this. 😉
It was in October of 2012 when the husband surprised the little one with a trip to the city’s regional airport. Apparently, these World War II warbirds had a tour which was called Wings of Freedom Tour, and he read about it in the newspaper. These World War II warbirds arrived in the city from Georgia and were only here for a couple of days. He believed the little one would be delighted to see those World War II warbirds, and he wasn’t wrong.
It was our first time to see such aircraft. The little one was ecstatic and so was I. They were huge!
The Liberator is bigger than the Flying Fortress. I think you can tell in the photos.
Those bombs were almost as big as my son. LOL.
I’ve never been in a cockpit before so although there was a limit to where I could stand, still it was exciting to be in that spot of an aircraft. This was the cockpit of the Flying Fortress.
Well, boys and their toys. He surely grabbed it as soon as he saw it and pretended like he was actually shooting.
This is the cockpit of the Liberator. It also has a barricade to stop people from going to the cockpit. I just slid my hand so I could take a much closer photo.
My husband found it very special to see the B-17. The bridge that crosses over the interstate leading to the airport is named in honor of Col.Robert K. Morgan, a native of our hometown. He was the commander of the famed B-17 Memphis Belle, only the second heavy bomber to complete twenty five bombing missions over Germany during WWII.
These two really checked every detail. I have to say it again, boys and their toys! I did enjoy myself taking photos of them. More than anything, I was amused of how it delighted them to see such big toys.
It is really good to see that they were able to preserve such stunning aircraft from World War II.
And if our plan to go to this place will materialize this coming Memorial Day weekend, I have no doubt the little one will be over the moon. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we get to go! 😉
