After sharing the recipe for Ginisang Ampalaya or Sauteed Bitter Melon last month, I figured it’s about time to share another favorite Filipino dish of mine – the Bistek Tagalog or Filipino Beefsteak.
Just like the other Filipino dishes that I shared here before which you can find on our Recipe Page, this dish is so easy to make as well and with very little ingredients needed at that. Except for the beef, those other ingredients are so simple that you probably already have them in your pantry.
Bistek Tagalog is the Filipino version of Bistec empanizado – a Mexican dish which literally means breaded bistec or breaded beefsteak.
The combination of lemon and soy sauce give you that salty and sour taste that is so pleasing to the palate, unless you don’t like those kinds of taste.
“The more onions, the better.” That’s the usual line that you would hear from the hubs. That’s how much he loves onions. I love using onions when I cook. I use a lot in stir-fries. And for me, the fresher, the better – one of the reasons why I love shopping at the local produce section.
Beef is perhaps the most expensive meat of all. That said, although this dish only has few ingredients needed, it is considered to be one of the most expensive dishes we have back home because of the beef. We either have this for lunch or dinner and if there are leftovers, I don’t mind having it for breakfast too. And more often than not, we pair this with steamed rice.
This Bistek Tagalog dish is on the menu this week around here and I can’t wait to fill my tummy with this delicious food again. I hope you get to try it and enjoy it too. Let me know if you do. Or maybe some of you have already tried this dish. Have you?
