The air is cooler in the mornings and evenings which signals that fall is just around the corner. Are you excited for fall? I am! And when the temps drop, what better food to fill our tummies with other than soup or stew. So here’s another Filipino dish that is one of my favorites and is so perfect for the cool weather.
Nilagang Baka, literally meaning “boiled beef”, is one of the most popular Filipino comfort foods. It doesn’t get icy cold in our country, but this is still a favorite among many.
You can find a lot of different versions of how to cook Nilagang Baka online. Some have added more spices and some have added more vegetables. My mom always add Gabi or Taro (in English a root crop) but it’s not available here in the U.S. supermarkets so I just make use of what is available.
And here’s my version. It could take a little while to cook this dish because you need to boil the beef until it’s tender. But after that, you just have to add the vegetables and seasonings and you’re done.
We usually have this over steamed rice, but you can also eat it as is since it’s already a complete meal of its own.

I love boiled dinners. I am all over this. Cant wait to show my husband. I’m Irish and he’s Scottish so our boiled dinner consists of potato , cabbage and corned beef brisket.
