If you remember on my August Recap post, I kind of like left you hangin’ about me getting giddy that the “ber” months started and that the first “ber” day was a special day for me. Well folks, it was my birthday, not to mention, my 40th birthday! Does that mean I’m already old? Hee-hee. Well, for the record, I don’t feel old at all. And as per the hubs, I don’t look like I’m 40. How’s that? Or maybe he was just being biased? 😉 Nonetheless, I’m the type who doesn’t try to hide nor deny my age. For me, reaching this age is a blessing because not all are given the chance to reach this age and continue to enjoy life. Agree? 🙂
So anyway, together with my boys, we went to a restaurant that offers Caribbean Cuisine which is located in the historic Montford area of Asheville – one of the prominent neighborhoods here in the city. It’s called Nine Mile. There’s been a lot of hype about this restaurant so I’ve been wanting to sample their food to know what the hype was about. I have this food app on my iPhone that I check for the hottest restaurants in the city and Nine Mile was included with a lot of good reviews.
I’d never had Caribbean food before so I’ve decided to be adventurous that night and sample what they had to offer. It was my birthday so I chose where we were going and the good boys that they always are, no whining or complaints were heard. 🙂
As you can see, there are tables outside the restaurant if you choose to eat outside. We opted to stay inside because it was still hot. I would rather eat my hot meal while the air-conditioner is on.
This was already after we had dinner. See those to-go boxes? Their servings were huge the hubs said his pasta was like good for three persons.
Their bread was really good. I don’t know what they put on it, but it was something that is new to us. It was a little spicy with a little bit of sweetness to it. I’m not at all a fan of spicy food, but the spiciness of the bread was just enough for my sensitive tongue to handle.
My salad with orange balsamic. I’ve had balsamic dressing before, but it was my first to have tried the orange balsamic and it was delicious as well. The hubs chose a special house dressing and he said it was good too.
All the entrees came with salad, but since our son doesn’t eat those greens, the waiter just added more bread for him.
This was our son’s entree. I’ve been wanting to eat couscous so I had some of his. He only ate a little of the couscous, but he gobbled all the fish.
Hubby’s choice. See how big that serving is? Well, he said it’s not only big, but huge.
And here’s mine. Their specialty is Jerk Chicken so it’s what I had. Still don’t know why they call it Jerk Chicken though.
And of course, the juice. Like I said before, a dinner in a restaurant is not complete without a glass of juice for the little one and me. The hubs always have sweet tea, but since they didn’t have it, he just had a glass of water instead.
It was a good meal. The taste was definitely interesting. So it was an interesting birthday for me. 🙂
But our night didn’t end there. We went somewhere else for our desserts. That will be what I’ll share next week. So hang in there, okay? 🙂

Happy Birthday, even if it is a little late. Looks like you had great time. All that food looks amazing. I don’t think you look 40 at all either!

i would love to travel even if it was just to eat at different places. all these dishes look insanely delicious! can’t wait to read more about your travels!
You have piqued me with all of this. Sooo… I guess I can wait a week to see what the dessert was like.
Stacie, I know you can wait a week to see what it is. 😉 See you next week!
I went to Caribbean but didn’t get a chance to try local foods. We only ordered plain seafoods. I love jerk chicken.
It looks like a really nice place to be in. And the food seems to be amazing, looks gorgeous!
We visit the Caribbean often and I love the food there. It’s nice to have a Caribbean restaurant nearby. Now, I wonder where you went for dessert.
Their servings are really huge and the food looks delicious! This looks like a really nice place to eat. I like the setting outside, too.
That “Jamaican Me Thirsty” looks wonderful. I’ve eaten Caribbean in several places – including Jamaica – and I’ve never seen it plated so attractively! In fact, most Caribbean places I’ve been to serve their dishes on polystyrene, even if you’re eating in!
The food looks delicious. You are one pampered Momma! Belated happy birthday!
Thank you, Chubskulit. 🙂
Belated Happy Birthday dear! I’m sure you had a blast and you certainly look not your age. Cheers to more happy years ahead of you.
The Natural Mystic and Bushman look delish. I bet they’re filling too!
You really are sweet. Thank you, Russ. 🙂
I hope you had a great BIrthday. The food looks so amazing. I love Jerk Chicken.
I definitely had a great birthday. Thank you, Ann. 🙂
Happy Birthday to you. 🙂 All this food likes really good and a great place to eat.
Thank you, Bonnie. 🙂
I would have never came close at guessing your age! It looks like you had a wonderful birthday. What a fantastic way to celebrate it!
Thank you, HilLesha. I definitely had a wonderful birthday. 🙂
This looks like it was just scrumptious! I am glad you had the opportunity to taste Island food. Being from one myself, I think it’s the most amazing food ever! So versatile and bursting with lots of flavor. Hopefully you will get to go again soon 🙂
I couldn’t agree more with you, Martine. And I feel so blessed to be able to do these things. 🙂
Wow. All of this food looks beautiful and delicious. That bread looks especially yummy. I’m a carb girl all the way. 🙂
This looks like a great place to have a nice relaxing dinner. The grilled chicken and tomatoes look like something I would over eat for sure.
