If you’ve been watching the news, then you probably knew how the East Coast had been bombarded with rain over the weekend causing floods in many areas. We’ve not seen rain for weeks; a drought condition had been declared for much of our area; but the amount of rain we got this weekend broke the all-time record here in the city!
Rain, especially over the weekend, can be a bummer, more so if you’ve already made plans because although you can go out and still have some fun, it is much better and safer if you will just stay indoor than travel. But on a lighter note, we can have fun in the comfort of our home while listening to the pouring rain. It is also the best time for an excuse to be lazy. Am I not, right? 😉
So I thought of listing 10 things to do when it’s raining. I guess you have done most of these too, if not all. I did some of these things over the weekend and thought of doing the others next time the rain will pour again. I wasn’t prepared to bake some cookies this weekend. I should have thought.
1) WATCH A MOVIE
I spent most of my days watching movies. And guess what most of these movies were? Christmas movies! I know, right? My husband told me too that it is way too early to watch Christmas movies. But I love watching them so why not?!
2) ENJOY A GOOD CUP OF COFFEE
I usually just drink a cup or two of coffee in the morning, but when the weather gets cooler, I drink more than that throughout the day. Nothing beats the aroma and deliciousness of newly brewed coffee on a cold rainy day.
3) DO ONLINE SHOPPING
Can’t pass up a great deal especially if it also includes free shipping from your favorite stores. But if you don’t have the budget for it, online “window” shopping will also do. 🙂
4) CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSET
If you can’t do anything to clean the outside, then might as well clean the inside. I sorted out my son’s closet and since he had grown so much over the past months, we now have more things to donate.
5) BAKE COOKIES
It would be great to be munching on cookies while you’re watching a movie paired with your cup of coffee.
6) PLAY BOARD GAMES WITH FAMILY
The little one can’t enjoy playing the yard and since I don’t want him to be staring at his iPad for hours, playing board games is a great way to fill the time.
7) READ A BOOK OR WORK PUZZLES
It is also good to curl up with a book in your favorite lounge chair. The hubs would read a book in between watching movies, being the bookworm that he is, or work on his Soduku puzzles or do the New York Times crossword puzzle.
8) EXERCISE
I’ll be honest, this is something that I need to work on. I’ve been contemplating about it and even printed some yoga materials that I can follow, but I still haven’t started. Somebody needs to push me big time so I can finally be motivated. 🙂
9) DO YOUR OWN MANICURE AND PEDICURE
When I can’t think of anything else to do, I go for this. It is a stress reliever for me.
10) HAVE A NICE CHAT WITH FAMILY
I love chatting with family on just about anything, and days where you can’t enjoy the outdoors would be the best time for catching up.
Baking cookies and playing board games are two of our favorites. Sometimes we all just snuggle on the sofa and watch a movie.
I love baking cookies, and watching movies. Sometimes a rainy day is nice because it feels like it gives you permission to enjoy doing something indoors, whereas when you stay inside on a beautiful sunny day you can sometimes feel guilty that you are not out enjoying it.
Baking cookies is the winner for me… although it might more often be muffins! I like to look up classic fall recipes when we have this rainy day weather too.
Online shopping sounds like something I would do with staying inside! I love watching a movie and cuddle with my family one couch and talking!
This is so great. I taught my kids early that if you use your imagination and don’t sulk, any day can be full of fun.
What a great list of things to do. It depends on who is home, but we like to play board games and I love baking. Cleaning is my least favorite, but it has to get done!
I usually watch a movie but I do online shopping even when it’s not raining. 🙂
I agree with all of these things! Secretly love having a rainy day every now and then 🙂
These are the best ideas! For some reason reading or listening to the radio always sound really good on rainy days in.
What a great list. We bake cookies, watch a movie and read a book. These are our favorite things to do when it’s raining.
These are all great ideas! But what I really love to do is sit on the porch and watch and listen to the rain!
5, 6, 7, 9, 10. All the way. So much fun to have to stay inside! We’re outside ALL the time so when we’re forced to stay in it’s a blessing! 😀
I am all about having a lazy day on the couch with my pjs, dog, and a good movie!!
Online shopping sounds great… 😛 I actually love watching movies with popcorn and a nice cup of coffee under the blanky. Waiting for the rain to come…
Such a great list of ideas! But theres one thing missing. And it’s my favorite activity. Napping! LOL!
Online shopping is dangerous and expensive lol. Cleaning out the cloaset is a great idea.
I love rainy days because it gives me the excuse to be lazy with the family and snuggle up to watch TV! Board games ARE always a fun option too!
A rainy day never stops me from getting things done…such as running errands! However, last it rained all day last Saturday and I literally spent the entire afternoon on the couch!
I love to cuddle by the fire and watch movies on rainy days. Crafts are a great way to spend the day indoors.
I love baking when it’s raining out. Oh and playing board games. We love a good family game of Candy Land.
How funny is this. Its actually raining here today, and i am doing 5 out of the 10 things you listed today. xoxo
I like deliberately having a chat with family. It seems like spending time w/family is getting less and less important as people are becoming too busy. Doesn’t even make sense to write it, must less see it really happening.
I’m a total foodie so as much as I hate rain, they do make great cooking days! It’s always nice to get a chance to try out a new recipe 🙂
this is so timely since we’ve been battling with the rain pretty consistently!
These are all great tips! I don’t usualy like the rainy weather but like you say, it’s a perfect time to stay indoors and read a book, play a board game or watch a movie.
These are great ideas. I would prefer to have a cup of coffee and snuggle with a book or with a great movie. And my 3 boys running around the background! lol
I love curling up with a good book when it is raining outside. My kids enjoy playing video games or watching movies.
Rainy Days sounds like a perfect excuse for wine and catnaps and movies and avoiding my telephone at all costs! LOL 🙂
Great list! We had a really bad rain storm the other day and was really bored. I’ll have to remember your suggestions the next time that happens.
Enjoying a cup of coffee while it’s raining is wonderful, while the kids are sleeping LOL. Great list of tips!
I have such a good time playing board games when it is thundering and lightning outside. We love to have Sorry tournaments.
Great tips, I’m on the East Coast and we’ve had plenty of rain. It did ease up a bit but I still decided to stay inside. We enjoyed Netflix and got a lot of laundry done.
We were trapped for a long couple of days here in SC so we did just about everything! Lol. THese are all great ideas though.
I love rainy days too and Oh my what a great post! Now I want a rainy day to do all this fun stuff in, thanks for sharing!
Sometimes, I’m less productive when it rains since I love to curl up and take a nap. Other times, I love to read or watch a movie.
When it is raining we tend to either watch a movie or do arts and crafts. I need to exeercise big time as well.
We love playing games in our house when the weather is crappy! Baking cookies would also be awesome!
Rain is one of my favorite types of weather… seriously love it. I love the smell, the sound, the feeling of it. My favorite thing to do when it rains is lay in bed and watch a movie with my husband. I’ve converted him to be a lover of rain too! <3
Love it! this is a nice list and two of my favorites is to enjoy coffee and the other baking 🙂
