Anyone else still having a hangover from the holiday weekend or from the 4th of July festivities? I know it has been two days already after Independence Day, but I feel like I’m still hearing fireworks in my head and I still have the taste of the funnel cake in my mouth. I would like to think that those are given scenarios after having a blast on celebrating the 4th. Yup, we certainly had fun and that’s exactly why although it’s already the 6th of July, I’ve decided to wrap-up our 4th of July.
Just like last year, we decided to head to downtown Asheville to celebrate the 4th of July. I had been looking forward to that day because although no one told me what food carts or food trucks were going to be there, I was so sure that the funnel cake cart was going to be present. And I was right! As soon as we were already in the park, it was the first thing that I looked for and there it was.
We had the funnel cake even before we had dinner so I think it is safe to say that we had our dessert first before our entree’. You may have seen this photo on Instagram already. It was already 5 o’clock in the afternoon and we planned on having our dinner at 6 o’clock. The hubs was a little worried that we might ruin our dinner if we’re going to have funnel cake then. But I couldn’t help it. I’d been waiting for this day all year and I had to have it now! But surprisingly, it didn’t ruin my dinner or our dinner at all. We were really that hungry!
We found an empty bench near where all the food carts were and devoured our funnel cake there while watching people as they passed. After we finished, we headed to the center of the park where live music was currently playing then watched and listened until it was time to grab us dinner.
Without nothing in mind on what we would like to eat, we walked in downtown and checked the restaurants that are located close to where all the festivities were. Then we saw this Japanese restaurant. As an Asian, there is no question why it was the first thing that appealed to me. Good thing, my husband loves Japanese food too.
That’s the calamari you’re seeing – our son’s most favorite appetizer and one of the things that makes him super happy! I will share more of our Japanese dinner on my Food Trip Friday post this week.
We went back to the park or Pack Square Park after dinner. The hubs was craving for a can of beer. But before he could get one, he’s had to buy this bracelet first. It’s a must to have this bracelet before you could get you a beer. I think it’s their way of checking that the buyer is not a minor. Gotta love that, right?
And to top it off, after dinner, I got a craving for some ice cream and the Hubs went to the truck right beside the funnel cake booth and got us some yummy ice cream cones which went perfect with the hot weather.
We stayed in downtown for more or less five hours until the fireworks display at 9:30 in the evening. I didn’t get a good shot of the fireworks because I didn’t bring my DSLR so I have nothing to share. But let me tell you, it was spectacular, as always.
How was your 4th of July celebration? I hope it was fun as well.

Funnel cakes! When I hit any sort of event like this, I power down funnel cakes like it’s my last day on earth. Those things are absolutely delicious.

Omg funnel cakes are the best!!! I swear both hubby and I can’t pass a stand without getting one at any type of event!
I don’t eat funnel cake very often. Of course, I see funnel cake in her post and now it so tempting. Thankfully, there isn’t anywhere serving them nearby or I would be in trouble.
Seeing that funnel cake just made me SUPER Hungry! Sounds like you all had a great time!
It looks like a lot of fun being there. I gotta say, that funnel cake looks pretty good and I think it’s nice of them to put a drink responsibly reminder on the tags … important if you ask me in any event or activity.
That funnel cake looks amazing. We stayed home this year and had a bbq and lit fireworks at the house. My husband had to work unfortunately, but we still had a great time. It looks like you did as well.
