It’s hard to believe that you are already a teen because it just seems like only yesterday when I gave birth to you on that early evening. It has been thirteen years, but I still vividly remember everything that happened that night especially that moment when I first saw you looking so fragile on my chest. Yes, you were so fragile back then. Little did I know that that fragile little boy would grow into such a fine and amazing young man. And I am not just saying that because I am your mother. Let us count the reasons.
You have always made me proud since you were a toddler – showing us the sweetest things and doing the smartest antics not one of us would have thought you were going to do. You lost your Dad at such an early age of three. You had no fun memories of him, but then it didn’t stop you from looking at the brighter side of things. You have grown to be a fun-loving individual and so full of joy. Do you remember what your 4th grade teacher told us? You are good-natured and such a joy to be around.
You are a smart young man and have been a consistent honor student since you started school. You were even inducted into the Junior Beta Club for not only demonstrating outstanding academic achievement but also for exemplifying worthy character and commendable attitude. And choosing to take band, becoming a trumpet player and expanding your musical knowledge was a proud family moment.
Then when you started 5th grade, you told us that you wanted to try soccer. And from then on, you have been our little soccer boy who is so full of energy, very competitive and has shown good sportsmanship. I was a little worried back then that your extra-curricular activities might affect your grades, but you have proven that you can face all the challenges given to you which makes me such a proud soccer mom. But after two years of youth-league soccer, you tried out for the middle school team and made it, proving even more that you can face tough challenges.
But the toughest challenge you ever faced in your early years at the age of seven was leaving your home country of the Philippines to come to America with me so I could remarry and give you a new dad. What a strong, young man you’ve proven to be.
I will never forget that day before Christmas almost two years ago when you were a volunteer bell ringer for Salvation Army. It was part of your Junior Beta Club community service, but you surely had fun ringing the bell. Your dance steps to the tune of the bell said it all.
My heart is so full right now just reminiscing and thinking of all those moments and memories that you made me such a proud mom. I know in my heart that you will continue to be such a kind-hearted and amazing young man.
My only hope and wish for you is for you to reach your dreams. Just continue to dream big and be the best and amazing man that you can be. Always know and remember that I am always here for you, ready to give my 100% support anytime, no matter what.
♥ Mommy
