I am Catholic by faith and on our holiday trip to New York City in December last year, I made sure to put on our itinerary a visit to the famous St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Located on 5th Avenue, right across the corner from Saks Fifth and across the street from Rockefeller Center, the amazing and beautiful architecture of the cathedral will surely leave you in awe.
We were still busy soaking up all the magical holiday decor at the Rockefeller Center and when we turned our eyes across the street, there it was, the Cathedral of St. Patrick in all its glory. In all honesty, I have never been so mesmerized and fascinated with a cathedral like I was that time. The Neo-Gothic-style church with its marble exterior is certainly unique. We have a famous basilica in my hometown of Asheville, NC, that has its own unique architectural features, but it’s nothing in comparison to this wonderful structure.
I took this photo across the street with my back facing the Rockefeller Center. As you can see, the area was packed. Where I was standing which was at the Rockefeller Center was super packed as well – the kind of holiday traffic that you get to experience in New York City. Only in New York City, I guess. 🙂
Too bad we didn’t get to hear a Mass. I would have loved to, but there was no schedule at the time that we were there. That was already after noon. There was one in the late afternoon, but we didn’t get the chance. Next time we get to visit New York City, I will make sure that we will hear Mass.
Right across St. Patrick’s Cathedral is the Atlas Statue. I had no idea that this statue existed, much more so that it was located there so it was an absolute surprise.
You should check this statue out if you get to visit New York City. It is definitely an amazing structure as well just like the Cathedral of St. Patrick that should not be missed when you visit the Big Apple!

I love St. Patrick’s Cathedral. I go there every time I visit New York City. It’s one of the most beautiful places there.

I’ve seen the Church from outside but never gotten in. It’s nice that you were able to take a nice angle shot of it because I think the other skycrapers are covering it’s real beauty. New York is such a lovely place to stroll and work around, one whole day is not enough. Even a week maybe. 😛
That cathedral looks beautiful! I’ve never been to New York, but I remember seeing that cathedral in the Home Alone movie.
I have always loved the look of churches and collect cool photos of them throughout the years. When I lived out there I never snapped a photo of this one but I would love to someday. These are great shots!
