America’s Largest Home, most popularly known as the Biltmore House, is a must-see attraction in North Carolina. Located in Asheville and owned by the heirs of George Washington Vanderbilt II, this 250-room French Renaissance chateau never fails to mesmerize. I’ve visited the place a few times before but still, it never fails to amaze me just like the first time.
The Biltmore House is situated on an 8,000 acre estate. That said, there’s more to see and enjoy on the estate other than the house. And here’s my tips on enjoying your trip to the Biltmore Estate to the fullest.
BUY TICKETS IN ADVANCE
Buying your ticket seven days in advance would save you $10.00 or you save $5.00 if you get it six days prior to your visit. The admission fee is pricey and we’re not rich so, we’re all about getting the savings that we can get.
Or you can purchase the annual pass and enjoy the estate whole year round for a price of more or less equivalent to three daytime admissions. That’s big time savings! I think I’ll include the annual pass on my Christmas wish list. 🙂
GO OFF PEAK
Ticket prices are more expensive in the peak season. But purchasing tickets when its off peak can save you money and yet you will still be able to enjoy the beauty that the estate has to offer in the summer. We went in early September, on a Tuesday instead of the weekend, and you can check this post to know the things we enjoyed on that visit. It was less crowded too which I so prefer.
ARRIVE EARLY
There’s much to do, see and enjoy on this 8,000 acre estate so arrive early if you want to do a lot of exploring. We got there at 9:00 AM and was able to do all that we wanted to do before we left in mid-afternoon. We even got to enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the nicest restaurants that I’ve ever been to.
WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES
Nothing beats a good pair of sneakers when you explore Biltmore or whatever shoes you want to wear that you find the most comfy. I decided to go with my sneakers and I couldn’t be more happier with that choice considering all the walking we did. On this day we didn’t even tour the house; had already did that on a couple of previous visits. This day was strictly for touring the gardens during the summer since my other visits had been in the winter.
We are locals so we don’t need to fly or drive miles and miles to visit the Biltmore Estate which I feel so lucky about. So if you’re from somewhere far and are planning to stay in a hotel, Biltmore has two hotels on the estate. But if you prefer to stay outside the estate, there are hotels around the area that are located close to the estate as well.
Lastly, soak it all in and enjoy every minute of your visit. I totally enjoyed every minute that the hubs and I spent there on that glorious day. Now I can’t wait to visit again…on Christmas maybe (paging Santa)?

We have a castle down the road from us called Casa Loma and I’ve never visited. I’m waiting for the Fall so it’s cooler as there’s no air conditioning since it was built in the 1800’s I think.
