My son and I arrived here in the U.S. two days before Thanksgiving in 2010, November 23 to be exact. And I am so thankful to have met people who are so warm and gracious to show me the beauty that the city offers.
Just a week or two of being here, Hubby’s friend whom I call Ms. Carol took us to the biggest and the most popular hotel here in the city, The Grove Park Inn which is now called The Omni Grove Park Inn. They host the Gingerbread Competition every year which is joined by different participants from all over the country.
I so remember how cold it was that day. It was in the early part of December. It wasn’t even winter yet, but it was snowing and the wind was blowing. I was wearing a coat, but coming from a tropical country, I surely haven’t adjusted to the icy cold weather yet.
This was at the parking lot. It was cold alright, but the beauty and cuteness of the car didn’t hinder me from taking a snap shot of the little one. But I did hurry.
I was really surprised when I saw this. Those were Bahay Kubos or Nipa Huts – a stilt house that is home to some of my countrymen.
There were like hundreds of Gingerbread that were displayed and all of them were made with awesome creativity.
And there were like hundreds of beautiful Christmas trees in different sizes as well that were adorned with different ornaments all over the hotel. The hotel is huge so just imagine how many Christmas trees were there.
Surprisingly, my husband who has lived all his life here in the city haven’t witnessed the Gingerbread Competition yet. Actually, the last time that he was at the hotel was during their Prom Night when he was only 17-years-old.
I haven’t been to the hotel again after that so this year, it is in our plan to see the Gingerbread Competition and feel the spirit of Christmas at the Omni Grove Park Inn. I can’t wait!
