Yesterday’s trip to the waterfall was one of those impromptu trips which always turned out to be one of the best trips that we have had. Sunday is always a lazy day around here. Around mid-morning, the hubs out of the blue asked me if I wanted to make a trip to the falls. We’ve always wanted to check the falls which is only about a 40 minute drive from where we live. We made a plan before but changed at the last minute because it rained. Yesterday’s glorious spring-like weather gave us no excuse not to go.
Looking Glass Waterfall is one of the most popular waterfalls in North Carolina. Located in the Pisgah National Forest, it’s right next to the road making it so accessible for adults and kids alike, and even for those with walking and mobility issues.
It got its name, “Looking Glass” from Looking Glass Rock where water freezes on its sides in the wintertime and then shines in the sunlight like mirror.
Hubby had been to the falls many times before so I didn’t bring the GPS thinking that he knew where he was going. Unfortunately, he had forgotten. He did print a copy of directions he got from bing.com, but even that one made him confused. Ironically though, we saw the road where we need to turn while we were parked at a shopping center in Brevard, North Carolina. And we were about to go back to where we came from. Now that’s what you call super ironic!
Hubby’s print-out didn’t say we’re going to travel 6 more miles to the falls from Brevard so our drive on US Highway 276 North seemed like forever. Then we saw cars parked in a picnic area. We stopped so we could ask. There was a couple there, but didn’t know where the falls is located too. Then came two cars who were also looking for the falls. Then they finally figured it out and told us it was just ahead and we’re almost there.
And we finally found it!
The beauty of a waterfall never fails to amaze me. Being there was so relaxing and calming and you could feel the mist coming from the waterfall. I could stay there for hours.
The little one had a blast playing with the water and throwing stones.
If you are living close to North Carolina or if you have plans of visiting a nearby place close to Western North Carolina, you should not miss visiting the falls.
Address: Looking Glass Falls, Hwy 276, Pisgah Forest, NC 28768
DIRECTIONS: From I-26, east or west, take exit 40, Arden/Asheville Regional Airport. That will put you on Highway 280 and you want to go 280 North towards Brevard. Travel 16 miles and right as you enter Brevard, there will be a shopping center on your right. Take the very next right, Highway 276 which will take you into Pisgah Forest. Travel approximately 6 miles and you will arrive at the falls which will be on your right.
ENJOY!

Thank you, Michele! 🙂
How gorgeous. One of my most favorite things about the south is all the water and waterfalls.
This was the second falls that we saw here in the south. I have to check if there are more close to us. 🙂
That’s so beautiful! We’ve never been to this area of the country before, but your pictures are making me seriously consider it!
You should check it out. 🙂
I just love waterfalls. There are not many in England of course, but we have little ones here and there. There is something so powerful and yet tranquil about them at the same time.
I couldn’t agree more with you. I felt so relaxed out there. 🙂

North Carolina is one of the places that I would like to visit – and it’s all because of the series One Tree Hill, lol. It really is a lovely place to begin with and seeing your photos makes me want to really visit in the future. Do they allow people to swim? Just curious.
I used to watch One Tree Hill when I was still in the Philippines. Didn’t know it was shot here in NC so I googled it and it was shot in Wilmington. So was Dawson’s Creek. Now I want to visit Wilmington so bad. 🙂
Anyway, yes, they do allow people to swim.
I love waterfalls! I tried so hard to see one in person and each time kept failing. Finally saw one a few months ago in Costa Rica and it was so beautiful!
So unbelievably beautiful, I cannot believe I haven’t had the chance to experience such a sight in person. The photos you took are amazing, I can sense the peace and serene feeling just from looking at them I can’t imagine how its like being there.
It was indeed serene and peaceful out there. Hope you get to visit one someday and feel those yourself. 🙂
What a breathtaking photo. I love going to waterfalls, there’s just something so tranquil and peaceful about them.
I would love to see this sight in person! I don’t know if I have any waterfalls in my area, but we do have water!
What a gorgeous view. I love being surrounded by water and could sit and stare/listen at the waterfall all day. I am always thankful for bloggers like you who share with me/us all the wonderful places we could put on our travel lists.
Thank you, Chrystal. 🙂 I do hope you get to visit the falls someday.

I know, right? But the hubs only told me about the falls about a year ago. We planned a trip last summer but it rained. 🙂
How beautiful! I can’t wait to get outside again after all this snow melts. Wonderful pictures.
Thank you, Ashleigh! 🙂
