Happy Monday, y’all! Hope you all had a great weekend. We had quite a busy yet enjoyable weekend. We did a little back-to-school shopping for our soon-to-be 7th grader, and we’re not done with that yearly chore yet. We’ll continue next weekend. Also, we were able to check out an entertaining event in downtown Asheville yesterday – a first in the city and I will share about it next week.
For today, it’s time for another recap. Yup, here we go again. I blinked and July was over. How did that happen? With August here, for me, it feels like summer is over especially that we started with the back-to-school shopping already. Although when the heat is on (like yesterday where it was in the high 80’s), summer is definitely reminding me that it’s still here staring at me right in the face, especially with this being the beginning of what’s called the Dog Days, something I never heard of where I came from, the Philippines. There, it’s constantly in the upper reaches of the thermometer. But we have had fall-like coolness in the early mornings the past few days which my hubs says it’s a bit unusual. Isn’t fall going to start in September? Unpredictable weather as always!
Let’s head on to the recap before I lose track of what I was thinking of and trying to talk about here. 🙂
FAMILY
The hubs had a little road trip with his only brother a couple of weeks ago. They attended a family reunion and later on traced their roots in the mountains of North Carolina. As per the hubs, they traveled through hilly, winding roads and to the boondocks just to get to the graveyards of their ancestors. I hope you didn’t miss his post about his family roots. The hubs is so into nostalgia. Him talking about his favorite shows Quantum Leap and the Twilight Zone is another proof of that.
But as you know, if you’re a constant reader here, he is not only into those things. He is also a book lover so like I’ve said before, I guess there will never be a month that he will not share a favorite book of his or a book that he is currently reading like the books of William Manchester or the books of one of his favorite authors of all time, Stephen King, which he dubbed as the “king of his genre.” He’s such a fan!
As for me, I have shared the beautiful blooms of one of my summer-blooming flowers, the hosta. I just love those purple blooms! Don’t you feel so too?
FOOD
I love food. And I love trying out foods. Trying out Thai food was recommended to us so I gathered courage to try it although I am not a fan of spicy food. Good thing, I could choose to the level of spiciness that I wanted, so that was a good night of Thai food. Also, I was able to try the Chipotle Chicken Wrap from a food truck. I enjoyed its mild spiciness and it was delish!
We were sad to know that one of the best restaurants that we’ve been to had closed, but still glad that we were able to sample their delicious foods before they vanished. I had the best burger ever at Magnolia Ray. There’s no doubt about that!
And that funnel cake that we had on the Fourth of July! Now I’m reminded of that dessert again and for sure, I will be craving for it again the entire day. Or worst, the entire week. Hmm, now that I thought about it, I didn’t see any funnel cake stand or booth at the festival yesterday. I wonder why!
Pork Adobo with Eggs – one of my favorite Filipino dishes and I shared the recipe here. Let me know if you’ve tried it and how you find it. It’s on the menu again around here this week and I can’t wait to have it again!
TRAVEL
We haven’t gone anywhere far this July, but we were able to enjoy a lot of good stuff that our beautiful little city of Asheville has to offer. You should check Asheville out. I shared some of the things that you could do and enjoy around downtown Asheville. Things that are on my bucket list too.
And it’s not late to check Food Truck Fridays. We’ve checked that block part for the first time in July, but they will have it until September. And of course, what is July without the July 4th festivities. We headed downtown for this year’s Fourth of July and I couldn’t be any happier. That was the best Fourth of July celebration for me by far! Gotta love it!
How was your July?
