Are you familiar with the song, “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day? I’ve been singing that song since yesterday. What the song is about has really nothing to do with my state of mind. I’ve just been singing it only because September already ended.
Can you believe it’s already October? I can’t believe it, but I’m not going to complain because I’m honestly super duper excited that October is here. We have things planned for the coming weeks and I am giddy. Of course, who isn’t excited about Halloween? We can’t wait to go trick-or-treating! I just hope the weather will cooperate this time. It was raining last year.
I think I’m beginning to get carried away about October now. I better stop. This post is about September after all. So here you go, our September recap.
FAMILY
Fall is finally upon us and I couldn’t be any happier. I’ve always been vocal about fall being my favorite season. There are just a lot of things to do and enjoy in the fall aside from the beautiful foliage that never ceases to amaze me. I’ve collected the activities that we’ve enjoyed as family over the years in 10 Fun Family Fall Activities and I’m hoping we will be able to do, if not all, at least some on the family bucket list for fall that I’ve created. So excited about it!
Fall Soccer has also begun so it’s one of the things that’s keeping us busy – from practices two times a week and games on Saturdays. Both the hubs and I had no idea about the game soccer before, but after two years of our son playing, we can really say that we are now suckers for soccer – like what the hubs exclaimed in his post.
And the books. Never forget the books. Hubby not only talked about his all-time fave author, Stephen King, he also talked about another one of his favorites, Tom Clancy. And being the history buff that he is, he shared about The War in the Pacific Up Close and Personal, too.
FOOD
Now let’s talk food. I’ve reached another milestone and although other people think 40 is old, I don’t. For me it’s just a number. 🙂 We Traveled “Nine Mile” to the Caribbean for my birthday dinner, and then went to France for our desserts. To the French Broad Chocolate Lounge, actually. Now I’m craving for that coconut macaroon that I had. Super yummy!
Ina Garten of Barefoot Contessa is one of my favorite chefs to watch on TV and when I thought of trying brussels sprouts for the first time, she was the one I thought of first hand. Her roasted brussels sprouts were delicious.
I am really excited for Halloween. And I can’t wait to prepare one, if not all, of those fun and cute Halloween treats that I’ve collected from the internet. They’re so cute I don’t know if I’ll ever eat them. 🙂
TRAVEL
We’ve seen and enjoyed a couple of festivals last month – the North Carolina Apple Festival in Hendersonville and the Art in Autumn arts and crafts festival in Weaverville. Both are neighboring towns of Asheville.
Lastly, did you know that our city of Asheville has long been a haven for great authors? I didn’t know either until the husband wrote about it.
It was a really a great and enjoyable September for us more so for me because I turned the big 40. 🙂
How was your September?

We had a great September. I live where it is HOT in the summer so we are actually happy that fall is finally here so that it cools off a little, but we swam last month and just explored around where we live.

We’ve done some exploring around where we live too. There’s a lot to see here in our area. 🙂
I’m happy fall is finally here. We love the Georgia summers, but it’s nice to get a break from the heat and 100% humidity.
Oh yeah, I remember how hot it was in ‘Hotlanta’ when we were there in the summer of 2012. 🙂
I can’t believe it’s October already. Where did the rest of the year go? My September was filled with travel.
I know, right? Where did it go? 🙂 Good to know that your September was filled with travel.
Now I have that song in my head! Looks like you had a wonderful September and a great birthday.
I really had a great birthday. I can’t thank my husband and son enough. 🙂
I am so excited for FALL but the weather is still very hot in San Diego. How often do you travel? Sounds fun
Hi Rika. We usually do road trips during the summertime, but I do wish we could travel more. 🙂
I always try to stay positive and count my blessings. September, like any other month has given me some ups and downs, but still I am thankful for everything.
Same here, Annemarie. There is always something to be thankful for, right? 🙂
I’m somewhat glad Fall is here. It feels like full on Winter here in Canada though, I’m not much of a fan. Sounds like you had a great month!
It’s the begining of October and the ‘real feel’ temp is 39 degrees, we went from summer straight into winter here! Fall is time to get sweaters and boots out the closet which is my fave part! 🙂
I love October. It’s hoodies and jeans weather and I’m ready for bonfires and freinds.
I love this time of year! September is a great month, but I do love the cooler weather of October even more. It looks like you had a great September!
I love the music video of it. Young love so fragile and unpredictable.
I want to go to Asheville so bad. I love roasted brussel sprouts, I add dried cranberries and sliced almonds to mine. It’s a great side dish for Thanksgiving.
You had a great month. We had a busy September, too. Here’s to another great month.
It sounds like you have had a fantastic September. I found it flew by for me. I have one kid in his second year of college and my Daughter is away at her first year of University. It has been a bit of an adjustment that’s for sure.
Looks like September came and go in a bling for me what a wonderful time you had. I enjoy the fall the cool weather and colorful leaves thanks for sharing.
It’s funny because I was just singing that song a while ago! it’s great to know you had a great September. Now, Fall has finally come!!
Sounds like you had a pretty fabulous September! I can’t believe it’s October! Craziness I tell ya!
September flew by so fast! Cant believe that its October and halloween is coming around the corner!
That song is one of my favorites. 🙂 I saw Green Day play it live. Great memory!
September never really existed this year. Seems like I woke up on September first and went to bed on the 30th. It really flew by.
