Happy Monday, friends! How was your weekend?
We had a quite busy, but very enjoyable weekend. On Saturday, for the first time ever since me and my son arrived here in the U.S., we got to see the Asheville Holiday Parade. I didn’t have that urge the previous years because of the freezing cold temps, but this time around, I told my husband and son that we were going to watch it…freezing temps or not! And guess what? It was brrry cold. The temp was in the 50’s and there was that wind chill factor, but we all bundled up and the sunshine kind of helped a bit to keep us a little warm.
But it truly was so special for that was the first ever Holiday parade me and Yogi had seen because of us being from the Philippines; that’s something not done over there. It did bring back memories for my hubby, however, because it was an annual event his late mother made sure that they never missed when he was a young kid.
The parade started at 11 o’clock, but we didn’t get there until about thirty minutes after eleven because we had to find parking and after finally being able to find a spot at a parking garage, we had to walk about a mile or so to where the parade route was. I had no idea how much we’d missed, but I’ve read that there were more than 100 entries who joined the parade.
We saw a lot though, but we definitely missed the Grand Marshall of the parade who happened to be Cameron Maybin, a native of Asheville, who used to be an Atlanta Braves player. Just the previous day the Braves traded him to Detroit which totally incensed my hubby! If you’ve been on our blog before, you do know that we are rabid Atlanta Braves fans here, right? 🙂
The street we were at was packed with people from kids and adults alike to babies and even dogs. 🙂
Loved this float from Bojangles, not to mention, we love their fried chicken too.
This lady is only among the many beauties who graced the Asheville Holiday Parade. She is the current U.S. International Miss North Carolina.
Cute and adorable mascots delighted us as well.
And save the best for last…there’s Santa Claus waving to all of us.
There was a lot of fun in store for the whole family at Pack Square Park after the parade. And if we missed Cameron Maybin on the parade, we didn’t miss him here. He signed autographs for the fans, but the queue was so long that we decided to just stare at him from beside his tent. Seeing him in person was already a delight for us.
This duo sang beautiful songs and it was fun singing along with them together with all the other people who were there watching.
I’m really glad we went and saw the Asheville Holiday Parade. It was so worth watching despite the freezing cold temp.
Happy Thanksgiving week!!!

You guys start the celebration early down there, huh? There would literally be a riot in my town if they had a Christmas parade before Thanksgiving LOL.

That looks like a great place to have some quality family time. I have never been to one of these. I get too cold to stand out there too long.

That sounds like so much fun. There’s something about a parade that makes Christmas so much more special. It’s a great way to bond with the family.

I haven’t been to a big parade in such a long time. We live in such a small area that ours is over in about 10 to 15 minutes. I’d love to see a big holiday parade. I love all of your photos, it’s the next best thing to being there.

I love holiday parades. They are much enjoyable down here in the South, rather than in WI. Growing up, I danced in every Christmas parade…. FA-REEZING!
