A chill is still in the air, but it can’t be denied, spring is definitely just around the corner. Our blooming daffodils say it all! With the thought of spring and with spring break in just two weeks, I only have one thing in mind, go to the beach and have some much-needed rest and relaxation. We all definitely need a breather after that roller coaster ride that we’ve been through a few weeks ago. But with the husband still in the recuperating stage, although he already looks good and feels good, I am still not sure if we could pull off a big time family getaway this spring break. Nonetheless, I’m keeping my fingers crossed and I’ll continue to dream about a beach getaway.
I grew up in a city that is located by the beach. The nearest resort was about a 15 minute drive from where I lived. It has been totally different since I got here in the U.S. because the nearest beach is more or less a 4 hour drive away. So is it a surprise that I’ve never been to any beaches here in the U.S. since I got here five years ago? I don’t consider myself a beach person, but I did love going to the beach from time to time back home to smell the fresh air. And I don’t know what’s with me lately because all that’s running through my mind is going to the beach. For me, the ideal place to relax my mind is a stay at the beach to soak in the sun, feel the sand on my feet and look and listen to the sound of the waves.
North Carolina is known for its beautiful beaches. What better way to experience our first beach getaway than in our beautiful state. Even my husband who is born and raised here in North Carolina has only been to one of these beaches. I think it’s time for him to explore more of his state, huh? 😉

Located in Wilmington, this is the only beach that the hubs had been to, but that was when he was still in high-school on his yearly marching band trip to take part in the opening ceremonies of the yearly Azalea Festival. ‘Twas a long time ago and he loved it then. More so now for sure that there are more improvements, I guess. I saw photos of the boardwalk online and I definitely liked what I saw. I can’t wait to see it in person!
2) Cape Hatteras National Seashore
Located on the Outer Banks, I fell in love with the beautiful lighthouse – the tallest in the nation – as soon as I saw it in the photos. The hubs has not been there so I told him, we have to go there and see it for ourselves!
Also located on the Outer Banks, I know we are not only going to enjoy the beach here but we would also be digging into some history which we enjoy doing as family. The town of Kitty Hawk is where the Wright Brothers conquered flight in 1903. It would be interesting to see where that important event in history actually happened.
4) Emerald Isle
Located in the southern part of the Outer Banks, learning that you can have a coastal boat tour in search of dolphins makes me giddy. It definitely sounds so exciting and I think my husband and son would feel the same way.
5) Sunset Beach
This is located in the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina metropolitan area. That said, I think, maybe, we could hit two birds with one stone here. Enjoy the beauty of this beach and perhaps, check the ones in South Carolina too.
And the list of must-see beaches in North Carolina goes on. I’m dreaming big here, but I’ll be more than happy if I could visit one or two of these beaches soon! 🙂
They sound lovely. I live at the beach here on Cape Cod, but sadly we can only use them for about 3 months out of the year.
I love North Carolina beaches. I’ve been to a few of these, and in my opinion, North Carolina beaches are some of the best on the mainland.
I have not been to any of these beaches! I think I need to add all of these to my list!
I haven’t been to North Carolina since I was little. Just reading about the beaches makes me want to go back soon with my family! Great list!
My parents have a beach house they rent out in Emerald Isle, it’s gorgeous out there. I’ve lived going to be beach since I was younger but since I’m older I go every few years. Great picks!
I’ve never been to NC before, or any of the states over there by it. I want to go though, especially to spend some time on one of these gorgeous beaches.
I love your list! We are planning to visit a friend in North Carolina. So we might visit one of these beaches.
It would be so fun to visit these beaches! I’ve never been to North Carolina, but it seems like a great place for a beach vacation.
I have to get this tired old body near a beach soon! I love watching the sunrise and sunset while relaxing on the beach. One of the best things to witness that makes us feel so thankful to be alive. Thanks for sharing these awesome spots in North Carolina!
We kinda searching a beach right now.. and seeing this post makes us want more to go to the most beautiful beach in our country.
We are headed to the beach this fall sometime so I will definitely be checking out one or two of these along the way! Kitty Hawk is definitely on my must see list.
My husband and I are actually planning in the next few years to take a trips to North Carolina to see the awesome beaches. We come from California so have a lot of beach time under our belt, but keep hearing how amazing Atlantic beaches are!
I would love to go explore North Carolina. It looks like such a beautiful place to explore.
North Carolina is a beautiful state and the beaches only add to it! And honestly, is there ever such a thing as a not so beautiful beach? lol A day on the sand and in the sun is a good day! Thanks for sharing this list, we’ll add to our bucket list!
I’ll make sure to check these out when I’m in the area. North Carolina sounds like a very beautiful state. I’ve never actually been there before.

I have been to South Carolina but I’ve heard that North Carolina is just as beautiful. At least where I’m from most people go to South as opposed to North Carolina. This post has made me realize that North Carolina would be worth a visit!
I’ve never been to North Carolina! I would love to visit those beaches!
I cannot wait to go to the beach. I just lay out.. I don’t like the water. I am in SC so I am ready! My pool opens ina few weeks; so excited.
