Since I got here in the U.S. six years ago, my husband has already taken me and my son not only to big cities such as Atlanta, Washington. D.C., Baltimore and Charlotte, but also to small towns near our hometown of Asheville. Just like him, there is something about small towns that I find so delightful. I think because of the fact that even though they are small, they still have a lot to offer. Not to mention, they are not crowded which is a plus for me. I came from a big city in the Philippines with more than half a million population and I do know how it can be a pain sometimes when a place is crowded.
I listed the small towns that we’ve been to near Asheville over the years. I’ve talked about them previously here on the blog and I’m linking every place to those posts that I’ve made.
1) Weaverville
Only about a 10-minute ride from where we live, this small town is the closest to us and actually the first town that we visited since we arrived here in the U.S. This is where his brother and sister-in-law lives. Hubby took us there the following day when we arrived to go shopping.
The town’s main street boasts stores as well as restaurants for different palates. They celebrate a festival, Art in Autumn in September which I was so glad to attend.
2) Marshall
This town is so full of history. Hubby was on a mission of tracing his roots so we took a trip there on Memorial Day Weekend in 2014.
3) Hendersonville
Their North Carolina Apple Festival is one thing that a lot of people check out every year. We got to attend last year and we certainly had a blast checking the food, the fun and the parade.
4) Chimney Rock Valley
This is where my husband took me for my birthday in 2014 and we went up to Chimney Rock. Being on top of Chimney Rock is definitely one of the coolest things ever. The rock itself is cool, more so the views from the top. It’s absolutely breathtaking! And that’s why visiting Chimney Rock is on my list of Five Must-See Places in North Carolina for you.
5) Lake Lure
This is located right next to Chimney Rock. They have a beach, a marina and all the other things that you would enjoy for that fun vacation. Did you know that some of the scenes from the movie Dirty Dancing was filmed at Lake Lure?
These are only the small towns that we visited, but the list is long. I am hoping we get to visit more of those small towns soon.
Do you also like visiting small towns?

Looks like I need to take a ride over there and check out some of these places! I love checking out small towns. They usually have so many interesting things that a big city can’t have.

I hope you get to visit these places soon, Jeanette. 🙂
Is Ashville in North Carolina? I am from the north, so I have no clue. Wherever it is, it sounds nice.
Yes, Robin, Asheville is in North Carolina – Western North Carolina, to be exact. 🙂
This is a great post. I haven’t seen many posts out there about smaller towns in an area. You can find amazing gems out there if you know where to look.
Thank you, Stacie. And I totally agree with you about the amazing gems. 🙂
Hendersonville would be the first place I’d stop on this list. Their apple festival is totally up my alley.
I haven’t been to Asheville in years and my husband has never been;. I really want to get him up there on the motorcycle. One of the most fun parts is finding the smaller, off the beaten path, towns!
Never been to North Carolina but it looks like a cute little town to visit one day!
I love small towns too, small town charm is what we got here in good ol Flagstaff. If you travel west, you’ll want to come here. North Carolina seems to be very pretty and green.
These sound like great places to visit,. I will have to check them out the next time i am in the area.
I have never been to North Carolina before. Sounds like a great place to visit. I actually live in a small town myself. This place looks like a lot of fun too!
These sound like some really great towns to visit. I love that bear statue. So cool.
I’ve never been to North Carolina! But the area looks amazing!
I am a small town kind of gal so I enjoy it more than big cities. This is a quaint little town.
I love smalls towns and I am particularly intrigued by smaller towns down south. I visit a friend twice a year in Atlanta so that would be the perfect time to take a detour!
I absolutely love this area of NC! Downtown small shops are always my favorites to check out!
Awwwww small towns are definitely the cutest!!!! Lure looks like my kinda place! I’m all about the lake life!
I love visiting small towns. My husband owns a property in North Carolina, can’t wait to visit
