Happy Monday! Hope you all had a fabulous weekend. Ours was simple. But after having such a fun and exciting weekend in Atlanta last week, I am not at all complaining.
So yes, I did mention about our special and exciting trip to Atlanta last week on my Food Trip Friday post and as promised, I”m going to tell you more about that trip today. Hubby is planning to talk about it too later this week, but today will be my version of it.
Guess what?! We were invited to attend the Final Game at Turner Field; the Braves will open a new stadium next year. That was such a very nice surprise! The hubs had been wanting to watch the Final Game, but when he checked for tickets, they were all sold out. Then he received a call from them.
What made it special was, they wanted him to carry the North Carolina flag in the Parade of States during the post-game ceremonies in honor of the states they consider to be Braves Country. We got the invite due to a post he’d written for this blog. When the Braves asked for fans to share their favorite Turner Field moment, he sent the blog in and that prompted them to send the invitation.
The final number on the Home Games Remaining was removed. They started the season with 81 games on the board, having celebrities and famous Braves players removing a number during each home game. An all-star cast pulled off this final number.
The ballpark was jam-packed. There were more than 50,000 Atlanta Braves fans there. This is the view from the seats we had.
There’s the hubs holding the North Carolina flag for the Parade of States. On the upper right of the photo is my son and me. I just took this from our TV where the hubs recorded the game. He was shown holding the flag on the big screen at the field, but I was so overwhelmed that I didn’t think of taking a photo. Duh!
Among the speakers during the post-game ceremony was Bobby Cox, the Hall of Fame former manager of the Braves.
There was confetti and a fireworks display after the game which was really fun. That’s my son right there. He totally enjoyed playing with the confetti.
The podium on which the post-game ceremonies took place.
It was really cool to be there and the euphoria inside the ballpark was astounding.
The hubs is going to talk more about the Final Game on his post. Trust me, he’s got more stories to tell. 🙂
It sounds like you guys had an amazing time. There’s nothing better than a day at the ball park.
We visited Chicago a few years back. I wish now we’d have seen a game at Turner Field. WE were so close. But there were no games the week we were there!
As a Mets fan I can’t say we are sorry to see Turner field go. We have played some awful games there. Hopefully the new stadium will be kinder. 😉
Awww….It’s sad that it’s the final game at Turner field, but it looks like you had a wonderful time. What a great idea it was for your husband to forward them his blog. Your son is adorable! I’m glad he had a good time! 🙂
It looks like your family had a fun day! Your son is so handsome.
He is. 🙂 Thank you!
Sounds like your family had a great time! Ball parks are always fun for the family. My daughters enjoy going to them as well.
It would be so cool to get to go to the final game. Looks like you had a great time.
That is so cool that your husband got to go hold the flag for North Carolina. I love going to the baseball stadium too.
That’s so awesome that you got to attend such a special event like that! I’ve never been there myself, but it looks like an awesome place to visit.
That is so cool that your husband got to hold the flag. He must have loved that experience.
What a great memory. I had friends that were there that night too. Love that you made it on tV!

We are a baseball family so this trip would be perfect for us. My son would be thrilled to see a game here!
What an amazing experience being a part of this historical moment! Glad to see your hubs taking NC Pride to Atlanta 🙂
that’s cool that you got to say bye to the field… I know how it feels, the Mpls, MN Metrodome was taken down, it was old and it was time for the new (but I will miss the very 1st ball park I ever went to, I’ll just have to hold on to the memories, as you will!)
