If you have been following our blog for a while now, you have probably known by now that our family loves to go on a road trip. Since me and my son got here in the U.S. almost 7 years ago, we have gone and explored places through road trippin’. It was how my husband introduced his beloved country to us by taking us to places he had been to as well as those places that he wanted to visit. And you can check those places that our family has visited on our Travels Page.
Through all those years of going on road trips, we have learned how important it is to have a dependable car as well as having those family road trip essentials. Our two Kia Sportages have definitely made our road trips good all the time. We have a white one now, but this red one is the only available photo on their website.
If you love going on road trips like us, perhaps you already know what the essentials or the must-have things for your road trips are. Other than clothing and personal belongings, here’s ours:
- Car Emergency Kit
- First Aid Kit
- Food (snacks, water)
- Tech Gadgets (cellphone, tablet, headphones, charger, camera, portable GPS)
- Miscellaneous (maps/road atlas; blanket; pillow; umbrella; facial tissues/wipes; hand sanitizer; and get plenty of sleep before you hit the road!)
And for those who have kids that still need to have car seats, check this link for car seat safety tips. Our son is already a teen and has already graduated from using a car seat.
Do you and your family love to go on road trips too? What are your road trip essentials?

It’s funny I still take a map with me everywhere I go. I do use GPS but just in case it doesn’t work I am terrified that I won’t have a map. So a map is always number one on our list.

This is such a great reminder post, going on a road trip is so different than just pottering about day to day and you need to make sure you are ready to hit the road.
Joanna @ Everyday Made Fresh says
These are all things we always make sure to have with us on road trips. My daughter makes sure that we have snacks and water every time we get in the car. I do think it’s time for me to update our first aid kit.
Mama Ash says
We do a road trip ever summer.
We pack the essentials, thankfully if anything is needed, there’s a stop along the way or a fantastic town in Ontario to visit.
Stephanie Parrell says
I really need to make a car emergency kit! I just never get around to doing it. Great tips here!

I LOVE the Kia Sorento! I was thinking of getting it but I went with a Jeep instead. I think after the Jeep lease is up I will purchase the 2017 sorento body style, I love it. I love traveling too but I’m scared to go alone so I try to take mom & dad when they want to go, I take them separate because dad loves the beach and mom the mountains. I will have to make these kits, I always forget.

Totally agree with you, most of these are totally a must. Though it depends on you guys what you’ll bring but if you’ve got kids, you’ll need all the entertainment you can get.
Amy @ Marvelous Mommy says
We are going to Disney World in February and I can’t decide if we should drive or fly. Flying is so much faster but I really love having my car, it’s like a second home!
Michelle W says
I agree with the list, it is important to check everything and be prepared. There are a lot of additional needs when traveling with kids.

I always make sure that we have our tech gadgets because it is a great way to pass the time in the car. The first aid kit always slips my mind though. But you never know when you might need it.

We once lost our cell signal while using a map app to get someplace. Ended up getting really lost and driving an hour in the wrong direction. With all of today’s technology still important to keep a paper map in your car.

If you spend a lot of time on the road you must have some of these things. A good emergency kit is essential.

I’ve test drove a couple of Kia’s and I love how good on gas they are and how affordable they are. My travel essentials include toilet seat covers and tp, lol.

This is a great list of essentials for traveling. We travel as a family of 8 so our list is just like that but a bit more.

Your numbers 3 and 4 are essential for our road trips! LOL We certainly can’t hit the road without snacks, and our devices are mandatory.

I’d love a new Kia Sportage. We are in the market for a new car soon since baby number 3 is on the way.
