After having endured one of the strangest winters in my memory, it seems as if spring is determined to repeat the “guess what’s next” scenarios we experienced in the winter months.
As for this past winter, we had four macro-scale cyclones, commonly known as nor’easters, all within a period of two weeks. And at least a couple of times those nor’easters went hand- in-hand with what has come to be known as Arctic Blasts, extreme cold and frigid air, the polar vortex that usually rests over the North Pole, moving south out of Canada. And along with all of that, we had more than our usual amount of snow creating missed school days.
That being so, beginning next week after the kids return from their spring break, they will be required to stay at school an additional 20-minutes-a-day the entire rest of the month, an unusual way of making up lost days, something that was never done in my days of schooling; we just had to stay in school longer into June until we had attended our required 180 days. They come to the conclusion of trying it that way by taking a poll of parents on the school’s website. Most likely, if the kids had to attend school further into the month of June, many people’s vacation plan would have been infringed upon.
Now, three weeks into the new season, spring has yet to truly arrive. Ironically, spring had shown early signs of arriving.
The third and fourth weeks of February were extremely mild. I even got to get in a couple of rounds of golf those two weeks, only to be jerked back into reality with the coming of another Arctic Blast. It was only last week that I got to play golf again, on a day the temp reached a high of 70°. And the next few days, up through yesterday, we had fantastic weather, the temps reaching the mid to high 70s with yesterday’s high being 85°.
With the coming of such acceptable weather conditions, me and Lynndee got out into the yard the past few days. I did my first mowing of the year and then we began doing the usual yard clean up of getting rid of the last of fall’s leaves. And she is so looking forward to continuing her flower work.
But, hello…Ol’ Man Winter sent another message last night! The temps dropped into the sub-30s along with gusting winds and a heavy deluge of rain. And we’ll be lucky to reach highs in the 40s before day is done. It just past Noon here and has just reached 40°. So, our plans of further work have been delayed.
According to the forecast I pulled up on the net, we’re looking at two more weeks of below par weather, which will preclude me from shooting below par on the golf course as well as continuing the clean-up work in the yard.
So, my vacation has arrived early. And the first thing I’m going to do right now is go watch my Braves play on TV. Of course, later on when summer finally does arrive, we’ll make the trip to Atlanta to see them in person, and finally get to see the new stadium. I can hardly wait! But until then, GO BRAVES!

I’m in the same boat as you right now. It’s just on the cusp of warm weather, and I’m getting soooo impatient.

I think this winter was weird all over the US. We just left Missouri where I had hoped to go morel hunting (which you can usually do this time of year), but it snowed!

The weather has been wild everywhere this winter and spring! Here in Canada we didn’t have those crazy snow storms but I am still more than ready for warmth and sunshine!

You are so lucky you were able to get some golf in! I could be out there today but it’s really still too cold for me. I hear you though. This year has been weird with weather!

The weather has been so strange this year. We have sun year round in FL but the mornings have been on the chilly side.

We are to have more snow on Friday, maybe. I love it but the natives in my neighborhood are getting restless. We do need sunshine!!

This winter has been crazy. Freezing cold then warm breaks. Just when I think spring has arrived, winter hits again.

It isn’t any better in our area as far as extreme temp changes. We had a few flurries and a sleet storm that fizzled out just west of town. Thankfully, the kids didn’t miss any days. Over the last month or so, we have seen lows in the high teens and high temperatures in the 80s.
A few days ago it was 70 and today it was in the 50s. Wacky weather cant make up its mind. Im just looking forward to summer time and spending time swimming.

The weather is kinda weird. It is really hard to predict. We have suns but I feel like it is still cold.

We had 2 tornado warnings here in Ohio on Tuesday and yesterday 30 degree with snow. Crazy weather all over! Spring is here but still waiting on the warmth 🙂

It seems like it has taken forever to really warm up outside. It is still fairly cool out, but the sun is here!
Mimi Green says
Our spring seems to be lost as well. Matter fact they are calling for 3 to 6 inches of snow on Saturday. I’m so over this cold weather.
Our kids can’t have any more days out of school. Between the cold, the snow and a severe windstorm they are out of days.
Heather Stone says
Oh my goodness, we have had rain, hail, hot days, warmth, cold, freezing days and SNOW!!! SNOW!!! North Carolina has a running joke don’t like the weather wait 5 minutes it will change.
Nancy at Whispered Inspirations says
Oh wow. YES! It totally seems as though this weather is never going to warm up and let the sun shine.

I can’t stand cold weather! It’s 35 right now and I can’t wait for warmer weather and being able to enjoy it!
