If you remember, our feet took to us to a few towns in Georgia this summer for our family vacation. We first watched the Braves play on our first night in Atlanta and the following day we watched a second game. But before that evening game, we made a quick trip to the small yet charming town of Covington which is roughly 30 miles from Atlanta.
If you were also a fan like me, you already know that in the show The Vampires Diaries, Covington, Georgia, was known as Mystic Falls, Virginia. So visiting Covington had been on my bucket list for quite some time after I finished binge watching the 8 seasons of the TV show on Netflix. Too bad though that the show had already ended, but seeing the film location was still exciting for me. But I must admit, seeing the actors would have been an added treat.
Mystic Falls Courthouse
The opening of the show would give you a glimpse of the courthouse where a lot of the scenes took place.
The Square
Right in front of the courthouse is the square where a lot of the scenes were filmed too. The square is right in the middle of town surrounded by shops and restaurants including the famous Mystic Grill.
It was so hot that day so we took some time to just sit down at these benches and enjoy the shade.
The Mystic Grill
Just adjacent to the courthouse is the famous restaurant in the series, Mystic Grill. It was around 2 o’clock in the afternoon when we arrived and when hubby and I went inside the restaurant, there were only a few people there. We didn’t sample their food because we didn’t have enough time. We just went in to ask where the visitor center was. We got the directions and also was informed about the gift shop that is located right under the restaurant.
There are stairs to the left that goes to the gift shop.
A view of Mystic Grill from the square.
Inside the gift shop. I had to have that must-have photo op, right?
That was really an interesting, exciting and fun trip for me. My boys may not have been as excited as I was, but at least they were good boys, good enough to allow me to take that trip and enjoy it. Gotta love my boys!
Are you a fan of the show too? Have you ever been to Covington or Mystic Falls?

What a beautiful small town. I remember the first time I saw a place I recognized in a show, it somehow made the art of videography more real to me.
Now I am going to have to watch a few episodes of Vampire Diaries, thanks!
