The holiday season is not only the most wonderful time of the year, it’s also the season of hope, the season of joy and the season of giving. You can always give back everyday of the year, but there is something about giving back during the holiday season that makes it extra-special.
We have done quite a few things to give back and I’m sharing them below.
Donate Coats
Either it is a coat that your kid has outgrown or a coat that you no longer wear, for as long as it is still in great shape and could be used by someone. The best thing to do is donate such a piece so someone in need can benefit from your goodness. We’ve donated coats a few times now and we donated it to an organization where people can have it for free and not pay for it.
Support Food Banks
They are always in need of nonperishable food items. You can start either by looking in your own pantry or buy something at the grocery store. You can also help pack those items at a Food Bank near you just like what we did before. You can read the post here. It was a game changer.
Volunteer as Bell Ringer
Other than helping at the Food bank, our son also volunteered as a Bell Ringer for Salvation Army. I believe it is always great to teach them young the value of helping others and knowing how lucky and fortunate they are compared to others.
Pay it Forward
Just paying for a person’s cup of coffee or entire order who is waiting behind you in a drive-thru line, for example, could mean the whole world to someone, without a doubt. At least for me it would. I’ve seen this done several times on TV and the smile and delight on the peoples’ faces were really heartwarming. I haven’t done it yet, but I’m putting it on my to-do list this holiday season.
How about you? How do you give back during the holiday season?

These are great ways to give back! Now is the time to go through clothes that don’t fit! Thank you for this!

You’re welcome, Brianne!
I love to find local LGBTQ communities and contact them asking what they need. Often it is just a warm welcoming home to invite a few people who have been betrayed/abandoned by their own families for fun and great meal!
That is so kind of you, Kimberly. Such a wonderful idea.
Great ways to give back. I would also add to visit the lonely. Our GS troop will be singing carols to a nursing home on Wed!
I have so many wonderful memories of volunteering at the homeless shelter with my children. It feels so good to give back to members of your community!
I have only had to pay for my own coffee once this past week because the pay it forward drive through lines have been steady! It is awesome that it is such a thing.
Great suggestions. My daughter was bell ringer when she was in high school. I love when schools and universities push for kids to get involved in community service.
Great ideas. I’ve been giving back by purchasing holiday gifts through school affiliate link so they can earn money from every purchase I make.
It always makes my holiday complete to give back. There are so many different ways, I’m sure everyone can find one that fits their priorities. Great encouragement.
I love giving back for the holidays. There are so many different options. I am sure there is one to fit everyone’s passion, you just have to find it. Great suggestions.
It has been so life changing for me to find ways to give back. There are so many ways to touch the lives of others and make a difference. I love to do it year round.
