What a delight to know that today is National Spanish Paella Day. I actually had no idea that there was a national day for this delicious Spanish dish until yesterday. Isn’t it fun that they have a special celebration for just about everything every single day? 🙂
If you have been following us for quite sometime now, you already know by now that we are huge fans of seafood over here. I grew up eating seafood because my hometown is located by the ocean and fresh seafood abounds everyday. My hometown is actually known as the Tuna Capital of the Philippines.
If you know our country’s history, we were greatly influenced by the Spanish seeing that they colonized us for over three hundred years before America’s arrival. That said, Paella is already a common and popular dish in the Philippines and we have given it our own twist. Wikipedia has an explanation for the Filipino version called Paelya. It originated in Spain, but this dish is offered in many Filipino restaurants.
This picture was taken on my birthday celebration last year. I was surprised to see this dish on the menu actually since it is a Latin restaurant.
See all those goodies. It was a seafood galore plate. There was shrimp, mussels, catch and calamari plus sausage.
I have tried preparing paella here at home before following a recipe that I found online, but I didn’t get to take a picture. I must have been super duper hungry then because that would be the only reason why I forgot to take a picture before I ate it. 🙂
Now thinking about Paella and looking at this picture makes me want to prepare this dish again and add it on our menu. I’ll bet my son would be very glad if I do.
Have you had Paella before?

We have a few family members that this is probably their favorite meal. Whenever they go to a restaurant that offers it that is hands-down always with the kids. It looks delicious and it would be fun to try to make it.

This looks very interesting! I love sausage and seafood, but I’ve never tried them together. I guess we will have to try it the next time we end up in a Spanish restaurant. I’m not sure if I want to experiment making this myself the first time, looks complicated.
