Happy Earth Day!
Mother Nature is beautiful, but its beauty could diminish if we don’t take care of it. Like we give respect to mankind, Mother Nature should be given respect too.
In celebration of Earth Day today, I decided to share the simple things that we do to help protect the environment. Things that we do, not only today, but everyday.

These things may be simple, but the impact is big most especially if all of us are doing these.
Recycle
Recycling is one of the best ways to protect the Earth. Not only does it keep our world clean, it contributes to saving resources. We have two large recycling cans on our back porch, one for paper and one for glass and plastic containers. And it amazes me how quickly they fill up, considering all the junk mail we get and all the containers we use. And fortunately, we have a recycling center not a half-a-mile from our home so it’s simple to pull the bags out of the cans and make a quick trip to do our recycling duty, and they even have bins for cardboard so we get to recycle everything.
Conserve Water
Our local energy provider in partnership with my son’s school gave away free kits for conserving energy, water, etc. around the house. A couple of the items in the kit were a water-saving faucet aerator and water-saving shower head. We attached them to the kitchen sink and our shower pipe and, presto, began saving water immediately. It helps minimize the use of water.
Use Reusable Shopping Bags
We’ve been doing this for years and have been using the same shopping bags that were created using recyclable materials. It’s amazing what recycling can do.
Use Energy Efficient Light Bulbs
A few years ago, we switched all our light bulbs to energy efficient LED bulbs. We used to have yellow incandescent lights. Now they’re all bright white which I like. The house is not only energy-efficient when it comes to light bulbs, it’s much brighter now too.
Choose Non-Toxic Chemicals at Home
Since I first heard of using vinegar to clean the house, I have used it since then and have never looked back. I use to it to clean the countertops in the kitchen, the dishwasher, the microwave, etc. The smell maybe strong, but at least it is a strong smell that is safe to inhale.
How about you? What are the things that you do to help protect the Earth?
I am working on doing a lot of these! We’re trying hard to use less plastic, and I’m forever telling my kids not to use too much water.
We are tryng hard to conserve and use less plastic. I think the more aware of what we do to this earth the better for earth!
We do all of these things around our home. Plus we don’t use paper products except for toilet paper. No paper towels, plates, plastic of any kind.
I’ve switched many of my cleaners to non-toxic ones and I try to do my part to help protect the earth. These are simple things but they make a big impact.
We should all definitely do our part. These are great things to consider when setting some ground rules for the family.
These are really helpful tips. I try my best to recycle and use reusable bags. I could improve in other areas though.
These sound like some great ways to help towards helping the earth. I do try and take my own shopping bags and I’m moving towards using more reusables.
I do most of these things and agree that we can all make a difference. One of my favorite things to do is use less gas by running errands all in one day per week!
My family and I are doing better with some of these, and others we need to start implementing. One of the biggest things we’ve been working towards is turning lights off that aren’t necessary, and to cut use of water for everyday use.
I’m switching up what I use in the home a lot and I am also reusing water bottles because that’s best. Great tips for earth day
Happy Earth Day to you! I like to recycle wear I can and use reuseable bags at the grocery store too.
I am trying to all of things! I’m glad that you are sharing these tips today (for every day.)
We try our best to do these things as well. Especially now that there is a crisis in water here.
We definitely use energy efficient lights in our home! It’s one of the little steps we make to “go green” as a family.
I think store should eliminate using plastic bags. This would get everyone to use recyclable shopping bags. In Korea, if you want plastic bag, you have to pay for it.
In California they have a strict policy of using plastic. Like for example on their grocery store bring your own bags, or else bags cost $.25 each . They do not use straw or if the restaurant provide t has to be made with paper straw.
Oh, that’s good to know. Thanks for sharing, Farrah.
Happy belated Earth Day! I use reusable straws, but secondhand clothes, use reusable bags, and other small things to help do my part
These are all great things. Thank you for doing your part in protecting the Earth! We all can learn from this.
We do all of the above except no chemicals. As much as I would love to use a natural cleaner, nothing comes clean as well.
