On this Memorial Day, I am sharing some blog posts in the past that has something to do with our fallen heroes.
We used to go somewhere on this three-day weekend and explore historical sites, but we made it simple this year. We’re just relaxing and later we’ll be enjoying some grilled foods.

Memorial Day: A Sacred Day of Remembrance
The husband wrote this piece. Being a member of the Baby Boom generation, he grew up when WWII was more than just a fading memory and he became a history buff and, other than visiting historical places, he also loves watching films and reading books about military history.

An Impromptu Trip to Antietam National Battlefield
And being the history buff that the hubs is, he made sure to show us this battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland which is such a fascinating place. Next on his agenda is to take me and my son to Gettysburg. He had been there before and he can’t wait to show it to us.

Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte
This place is full of aircraft not only for the military, but also commercial. Remember the plane that crashed on the Hudson River. It is being displayed here.

World War II Warbirds: Wings of Freedom Tour
This was at the Asheville Regional Airport before. It was amazing to see those planes that they used before. That’s my son looking up. Can you tell how fascinated he was?
We have also visited Currahee Military Museum in the past and was mesmerized in all things military. And there’s no wonder why the Hubs is into those things. They sure are fascinating.
And to pay tribute to the fallen of World War I, North Carolina planted these poppies to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of World War I.
Have you been to any of these places before? How are you observing Memorial Day?
I live right outside Charlotte (right across the border in SC) and I can’t believe I’ve never visited the aviation museum. I need to take the grandkids.
My family is a military family we always celebrate Memorial day every year and remember those that did not make it home.
This is a great way to get kids to think about the importance of Memorial Day. They can learn about those who have fought for the US and be together as a family making fun memories.
Happy Memorial Day. We watch the parade and remember all the fallen soldiers.
My family would love to go to any of these places. We’re a military family, so we always think about those who came before and gave us our freedom.
As a military family I think it’s important to remember those that don’t ever make it home from wartimes.
My husband’s father would absolutely adore this place. I think it’s so great that they have all sorts of aircraft – both military and commercial.
It is an occasion to remember those who laid down their lives so that others could live. Remembering them and thinking about them is the least that one can do.
I don’t blame your son for being fascinated. Those planes up close are so much neater when you can see all the details.
What a great post. It’s important that we never, ever forget those who laid down their lives for all of us to be free.
It’s so great to know about our country’s history and to remember the fallen. I mean we have all our freedoms because people fought so that we’d get to enjoy them. Paying tribute is the least we could do.
