Both my son and husband love tater tots, but I always just prepare them either deep fried or baked paired with bacon and eggs plus rice for my son for breakfast. Not until I saw this casserole recipe. I thought it would be nice to give it a try because it looked delicious.
So I tried preparing it, but I tweaked it a little bit and cut some of the ingredients off from the original recipe that I saw. And boy, was it ever a hit! What really delighted me was the fact the my son who can be very picky really loved it.
I have prepared this dish a lot of times already, but I just remembered that I haven’t shared it here on the blog yet. The photos sure doesn’t do justice to how delicious this dish is, but trust me, it’s really good.
Here’s the recipe for you to try:
Ingredients:
- Tater Tots or Tater Nuggets
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- 3 pcs Turkey Franks, Sliced in bite size pieces.
- 1 Medium-sized Onion, Chopped (you can use either red or yellow)
- 1 can Tomato Sauce, 8 oz
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Ground Mustard
- 1/2 tsp Cumin
- 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
- Spray a 7 x 11 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- Add the frozen tots to the baking dish – lining them up and covering the entire bottom of the dish, and bake for 25 minutes.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the chopped onion. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the turkey franks and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the tomato sauce and all the spices, mix and bring to a boil.
- Cover the tots with the mixture then top with shredded cheese.
- Bake for 3 minutes or until the cheese melts.
- Serve warm!
So, there you have it.
