It’s Monday and it’s back to school for our teenager! We picked up his schedule less than two weeks ago and he already had his haircut so, I think it’s suffice to say that he’s ready to start the new school year, his junior year.
Yes, he’s already a junior and yes, I can’t believe it either. 🙂
I have shared our back-to-school routine here before, but that was when he was still in middle school. There have been some changes since he started high school. Well actually, most of the changes just started last year when he decided not to ride the school bus anymore which we totally understand and it has actually worked just fine. The transition was pretty smooth and we all adapted to the change quickly without problems.
Here’s our revamped back-school-routine:
Bedtime at 10:00 PM
It used to be 9 o’clock when he was in elementary until middle school. Apparently, teenage years require more time to have fun and enjoy the hours after school. 🙂
Preparing His Things the Night Before
Like his clothes and backpack. We still do this because it really makes getting ready in the morning a breeze.
Alarm Set at 6:30 AM
I used to set the alarm at 5:00 AM because we have to catch the bus which usually arrives around 6:15 AM. Not anymore, and waking up at this time is way better, for sure, since we all can snooze a little bit more.
I get up as soon as the alarm goes off then prepare his breakfast. I then wake him up which is around 7:00 o’clock for him to get ready. It only takes him half an hour to eat his breakfast and fix himself. Perks of being a male, huh? 🙂
Off We Go at 7:30 AM
It takes only about 10 minutes to get to his school with a 35 speed limit. School starts at 8:00 o’clock so we always have plenty of time to get there. It’s usually the Hubs who takes him in the morning, not unless he has work.
School Pick-up at 3:00 PM
Classes ends at 3:00 o’clock, but I usually leave the house at 2:00 o’clock and wait in line at the school. The line for the car riders can be long so, I prefer going there early so I could get good parking. I am usually the one who picks him up in the afternoon, but sometimes the Hubs does it if I’m busy with something.
Homework Before Dinner
It’s seldom he does his homework here at home since he started high school, but when he does, he does it before dinner. That’s because he does it at school when he has nothing else to do. Good boy!
And that’s it. What your back-to-school routine?
I hope and pray that our kiddo has a great first day of school and a wonderful junior year!

The alarm usually goes off at 615 AM here, my daughter is up first, falls back to sleep on the couch, I toss a pop tart at her head, she wakes up, sort of eats, then gets ready, then heads to the bus because I won’t drive if there’s perfectly good transportation.
Then my son wakes up and it’s basically the same deal.

Your new schedule seems very organized and easy to manage. I have no doubt it will make those hectic mornings a little less stressful.

My grandbabies started 4-k today. I can’t believe how quickly they grow up. They looked so big.

It sounds like you have a great schedule sorted for back to school, it’s good to know what your routine needs to be, to be ready for it. There’s still a few weeks left over here, as people go back in September.

My boys have been back at school since last Wednesday and we are still getting used to the newish routine. This year, we live closer to the school and it is so nice. I drive my youngest to school and he is able to meet me just inside the gate to the neighborhood we live in (school is on the other side of the fence). I’m loving it bc no more sitting in the pick up line for an hour. But with back to school routine changes this year, my kids had to overcome some back to school anxiety too. We changed schools over the summer and it is a bit of a change for them. So far the anxiety has resolved itself and hopefully, it doesn’t become a problem again.

My kiddos don’t start until next week and we are starting to get ready to get back in the groove. This is a really great schedule, we kind of do similar too.

That’s a good routine. When this was a thing at our house, it was up at 5:30 for ice skating practice, shower and dress at the rink, to school by 8:00. I’d pick her up at school, she’d play with the dogs for 30 minutes or so, then off to do homework. Dinner around 6:00 when her dad was home, then off to skate practice, golf, or one of the many clubs she was in. I miss those days!

He’ll heading out to college soon. How time flies, that’s why it is important to be there for our children at all times.

It’s so hard to believe it’s already back to school time. My daughters start next week. They’re so excited to go back though. I think it’s always great to have a routine too.

This year I’ll have 2 in school. I’m driving them in the morning otherwise my 5yr old would be on the bus for over an hour. So up at 630, at school at 720, they get off the bus after school, homework, then “sports” dinner and relax a little before bed at 9.

My routine looks very similar. I don’t really like getting up early in the morning but I am forcing myself to be more productive. Lovely blog

Thank you, Katie. 🙂

My that is early. It’s been a while for me and school, so I do not remember having to get up that early. Getting a lot done the night before is a must. But, that is still a lot of work.

It’s almost the same routine as ours, except the monring. School is a little far from here and the traffic is bad so we need an hour or two before we get there.
