October is Filipino American History Month (FAHM).
I didn’t know that, though, until I saw it yesterday while browsing the web. Funny you may say because I’ve been in the U.S. for eight years now. And another funny thing, I just found that out after a few days that I became a U.S. citizen. It sure is funny how life works sometimes.
And as a lover of food, what better way to celebrate the Filipino American History Month than talking and sharing about food. Filipino food to be precise because other than missing our family back home, the next thing that we miss being in the U.S. is the Filipino food from our native land. Although we can prepare some of it here, there are still a lot that we can’t because of the lack of ingredients. But I am still thankful for what I can get.
And here are a few delicious Filipino recipes, some of my favorites, that you really must try.
1. Pork Adobo with Eggs
2. Pork Afritada
3. Pancit Bihon
4. Filipino-Style Spaghetti
5. Pancit Canton
6. Arroz Caldo
7. Ginisang Monggo
8. Bistek Tagalog
9. Nilagang Baka
10. Ginisang Ampalaya
11. Adobong Talong
12. Crispy Fried Calamari
I am definitely so thankful for the local Asian Market that we have here where I can get my much-needed ingredients for my favorite Filipino recipes. If you want to try any of these recipes, head to your nearest Asian store and check the ingredients out.
Have you tried any Filipino dishes before? Did you like it? Do tell me about it. I would love to hear your story.
To all my Kababayan (fellow Filipino) in the U.S.A., CHEERS to celebrating the Filipino American History Month!
