I must admit, I’ve been very remiss in sharing my thoughts here at the blog my Wifey created. And the only reason I ever shared a thing here is that early in our relationship, Lynndee was so impressed with the emails I sent her that she invited me to join her in her efforts and become her coauthor. One thing she mentioned in her introduction of me to y’all is that she had renamed her blog A Thousand Country Roads and that she’d explain later the why of that. I don’t know that she ever did tell you that I gave her that idea, one I’d been inspired by from one of my all-time favorite books, The Bridges of Madison County. And to put things in context, we’d just known each other roughly 5 months and had yet to meet face to face when we took this step on the first of our thousand country roads that led us to where we are today.
This leads me to doing another Currently post. Lynndee just did one the other day, but it was her idea that I do one initially, an idea she’d got from other bloggers. I loved the idea for it was such an easy way to go if I didn’t have any specific idea of what to write about on a particular day, a lazy-man’s way of writing…(“,) So I did my first one in October of last year, following it with one in November and two others, one in February, one in June. As for Lynndee, once she jumped on the bandwagon, she’s been faithful and did one every month. So, anyway, here goes, Currently, I’m…
Reading…
Bruce Catton’s Civil War.
This trilogy of Mr. Lincoln’s Army, Glory Road and A Stillness at Appomattox, though published in 1984, is a compilation of the late Catton’s early works. Though at times very detailed, Catton wrote in an almost poetic way describing this war that tore our young country apart. An interesting thing I ran across while reading this book: There was a Union soldier by the name of Harry Reese, a coal miner who led the digging of the tunnel at the battle of Petersburg, mentioned. I have no idea if he was of any kin, but…who knows? He was from Pennsylvania. Another Pennsylvania Harry Reese invented the Reese Cup candy. Sure would love to learn that he was my kin!
Watching…
The early 80s sitcom Family Ties, featuring a young Michal J. Fox.
Having lived through that era, it’s so funny to see him portraying an ultra-right-wing conservative, a role he totally aced, though, according to him, he doesn’t personally care about politics, choosing to endorse any politician who promotes stem cell research which he finds importance in due to his suffering of Parkinson’s disease.
Listening…
To Grand Funk Railroad, an early 70s rock band known for their big hits “”I’m Your Captain (Closer to Home”) and “We’re an American Band”.
I just ordered three of their CDs to replace the 8-Track tapes of them I have, which still actually play; I do have an 8-Track player that still works!
Looking Forward To…
Thanksgiving, of course.
But I’m also happy that the college basketball season has begun and I’m following my University of North Carolina Tar Heels, in hopes of seeing them make it to the national championship again. And of course, with the Hot Stove League of Major League Baseball looming, I’m looking ahead and counting down the 119 days, 10 hours and 40 minutes until March 26, 2020, the opening day of the next baseball season for my Atlanta Braves.
And, that’s all folks! Until next time, I’m now currently looking forward to going back to being lazy. Until then, see ya, bye ya!
