We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in my home country, the Philippines, but I have grown to love this celebration here in the U.S. This Thanksgiving will be mine and my son’s 10th year of celebrating it. We arrived in the U.S. two days before Thanksgiving in 2010 which was perfect.

So what are the things that I look forward to every Thanksgiving? Here they are:
1. The Food
Turkey, dressing, gravy, the many side dishes and a lot of desserts…my sister-in-law always prepares the most delicious food ever on Thanksgiving. She is the most gracious host and such an excellent cook. Now if only I could cook like her, I’d be happy to host a Thanksgiving gathering too. 🙂
2. Family
Chitchatting, catching up or just being around each other…Thanksgiving is one of the best times to be with family.
3. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
I have watched the parade on TV for years now and I am always looking forward to watching it. Hopefully someday, we get to see the parade live in New York City. We’ve already been to New York at Christmastime before so we’ll see about seeing the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in the future.
4. School Break
Three days of no school for the little one means sleeping in. School can be stressful for students so my son sure looks forward to days with no school and I don’t blame him. I am happy for him that he can actually have some rest and just simply relax on those days.
5. Black Friday and Cyber Monday
They are considered the Holy Grail of sales and I couldn’t agree more. But we don’t go to the stores on Black Friday because there are also a lot of great sales online. We do most of our gift shopping online because of the convenience that it brings and those days are the best days to shop, without a doubt.
How about you? What are you looking forward to this Thanksgiving?
This year will be the first time that I go black Friday shopping in my life! I’m not much of a shopper but this year I’m going for it.
Seeing the parade live in NYC is amazing. We have seen it 3 different times and it is so cool to see in person.
The food, and spending time with family are my favorite parts of Thanksgiving. Seriously, there is no better meal than mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, and turkey!
I enjoy pretty much all the things about Thanksgiving that you mention here. I don’t go out for Black Friday shopping anymore, but I still get excited for some Cyber monday deals.
I’m looking forward to the parade as well. It’s always have been a tradition to watch it in my home.
I love everything about Thanksgiving! My parents are from the Philippines so growing up, we never really celebrated it. However, now that I have a little family of my own, I love going all out!
i totally agree with you my friend- i enjoy alot of great things with thanksgiving esp just being with family
We just celebrated Thanksgiving with my husband’s family last weekend. We had a wonderful time. We have never gone shopping on Black Friday, but I try to catch some of the Cyber Monday deals.
I am all about 1-4 but I am not such a good shopping guru. I love a good discount code, though. So bring on Cyber Monday!
I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving too! This year we’ve decided to host this 25+ person event the Saturday before Thanksgiving. It helps us spread out the joy over the entire week!
There’s so much to look forward to during Thanksgiving. I’m excited to see family as well, especially since it’s one of the days where we’re all together, enjoying the food and each other’s company.
I feel the same way holidays sales make my eyes popped. And the smell of surrounding and the cold chill weather a reminder that Christmas is fast approaching.
Love this time of year, so pretty outside with all of the leaves. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday as well and look forward it.
We’re on the same page LOL. I’m looking forward to any of the same things.
I am looking forward to the day with the family. Good food and good conversation!
These are all the things we look forward to as well. It is nice to have a break and spend some time with family.
Same here! I am looking forward to spending time with my family, shopping, traveling and more!
It’s always nice to spend it with family and friends. Oh and the Black Friday sale, there are lots of great deals!
I can understand why you all don’t have Thanksgiving in your country but I’m glad you get to enjoy it in the US. We love watching the Macy’s Day Parade. That’s been a family tradition for the last 17 years!
