Me having been such a Grinchy Scrooge over the years, the idea of looking forward to a “White Christmas” had never entered my mind over the years. And even finally growing out of my cynical shell, it still never entered my mind. There have been few here in Asheville during my lifetime. I had to research to find when they had occurred, finding little. 7/10 of an inch of snow fell in 1993 and 3 inches fell in 1981, not truly big deals. But in 1969, we awoke to 9 1/2 inches of the white stuff. But, in all honesty, I don’t even remember that, for if I had, I would have included that in my recent post about Memorable Christmases.
Thing is, after having shared those memories with y’all, another special time popped up in my head, giving me a swift kick to the butt reminding me of another totally memorable Christmas that will forever live in my mind. How I could have left that out, well…I was under a lot of pressure to get my post written and I rushed myself to get it done, going brain-dead in the process. Still, once I tell the tale here now, you’ll understand why this one particular Christmas Day will forever live in my memory as one of the bestest ever!
Christmas Day 2010
We awoke to Christmas morning 2010 unaware of what we’d see when we looked out the window. But when we did look, much to our amazement, we discovered a white vista of roughly between 5 – 12 inches. What made that special was the fact that it was the first time Lynndee and Yogi had ever seen snow seeing that they had on arrived here in the U.S. only 32 days earlier from the Philippines, a country where each day is a perpetual summer.
Needless to say, I could not have been happier, and any remnant of the Grinch in my persona was totally banished. After our time of gift sharing and breakfast, we went outside and played, which was especially enjoyable since Yogi was 7-years-old. What a wonderful way to welcome my new family to their new world, one that Lynndee had initially discovered walking out of the airport after our arrival home that November day, walking out into mid 40 degree temps and exclaiming, “OOOOH, it’s cold!”, experiencing cool weather for the first time in her life, little realizing what was yet to come. Such was the beginning of Lynndee and Yogi’s new life in a new world, creating new memories to carry forward into future Christmases.
Seeing that a week from today will be Christmas, and the week after that New Year’s Day, I’ll probably not be back until next year sometime. So let me take this chance to wish all of you faithful followers a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, with hopes of snow to welcome all the holidays.

You can have it. I live in a place where it snows regularly in the winter and I am ALL SET with snow, even on Christmas.

I do ADORE White Christmases but I am so not a fan of the cold. So I am cool with a snowy 25th and then every other day can be 75 degrees and sunny, LOL!

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! We won’t get a white Christmas since we’re in Texas sadly.

We have been lucky most years to have snow on Christmas Day. Living in New York, it’s almost a given. The weather here can be very fickle: temperatures in the 60’s (several years ago), to 9-12″ of snow on Christmas Day!

I would rather it snow on Christmas then during a school day! We live in NYC and there are several hills close by, so at least the kids get to have some fun.

We actually got a dusting of snow this evening. I wouldn’t be surprised if it snowed Christmas. It has been snowing a lot ready this season.

We don’t get snow very often but the few times we do it is magical and really brings the idea of Christmas to life for me.

We have some snow here, so it’s been real nice. I hope it sticks around for Christmas though. It’s not suppose to snow anytime soon, so hopefully what we have stays.

Living here in Texas all my life, I can’t remember ever having a white Christmas. But, it sure would be fun.

That’s a great Christmas story! Happy Holidays to you and your family!

When I lived in Sweden I used to enjoy the white christmas. Here in Texas snow is not a thing. Any day I like a sunny day rather than a rainy day christmas.

We live in California, so we can relate in some degree to the perpetual summer. It looks so magical to have a white Christmas! I hope you have a wonderful holiday.

I have never experienced a White Christmas yet since I am living in a tropical country. Maybe next year I’ll try to travel during winter season.
