And here we go, again! I haven’t done one of these Currently posts in quite awhile; since last November, to be exact. As things go, my life is relatively simple. Being retired and just working part time my days have no true schedule like Lynndee, as she just recently shared in her most recent post. So to get back on the bandwagon, Currently, I’m…
Reading…
Stephen King’s IT. This is one of his most epic works. As he’s been told, it appears he suffers diarrhea of the word processor seeing that he puts out so many works. That could also metaphorically point out that several of his books have been quite long, This paperback volume of IT that I got for Christmas is 1,160 pages long! That goes hand-in-hand with other of his works I have in my library: The apocalyptic tale The Stand – which is frighteningly visionary considering the current coronavirus outbreak – is 1,153 pages long; The Dark Tower Volume 7, 845 pages; Insomnia, 787 pages; and one of my favorites (among many!) 11/22/63, King’s time travel attempt to avert Kennedy’s assassination.
As I’ve shared here before, King is one of my all-time favorite authors. And IT is one of my all time faves of his. But just recently I shared my take on one of his latest works which I found so disappointing. The Institute. On my newest journey through the pages of IT, I’m totally reminded of why I was so disappointed with The Institute; you don’t truly learn and come to love the characters of the children in The Institute as you do in IT. But, that’s a personal opinion and you’d have to read the books yourself and make your own determination.
Watching…
As well as Family Ties, which I spoke of in my last Currently post, I’m now watching the mid-60s sitcom That Girl, featuring Marlo Thomas, the daughter of the famous nightclub comedian, singer, actor, producer, and philanthropist Danny Thomas, most well know for his founding of the St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. And to this day, you can still see Marlo on TV promoting the hospital while seeking funds to support it. But I’ll have to admit that at the time me and my mom watched this show back in the 60s, I had a terrible teenage crush on Marlo. Such are the ravages to the teenage persona!
Listening…
To a lot of my moldy oldies that I love so much. Reason being, I just started a weekly posting on my Facebook page called Music Monday, picking up on something Lynndee used to do on one of her old blog pages back in the Philippines, back in our early days right after we first became acquainted. All I do is find one of my all-time favorite tunes on youtube, write a bit of history about the group or performer and the tune, and post it on my page. Some of the groups I’ve posted are Chicago, The Little River Band, The Highwaymen and The Alan Parsons Project , along with the Duo of Crosby-Nash and the great solo performance of Richie Havens “Rocky Raccoon” If nothing else, I get to enjoy the nostalgia of listening to my old music which makes me feel so young, once again.
Anticipating…
And speaking of feeling young again, I’m now looking forward to the arrival of my next birthday in just three days time. Needless to say, I’ll certainly need to listen to a ton of my moldy oldies to scrub away the years I’ve accumulated on my journey through time. As for my age, well, I’m not so vain that I won’t tell, but, I’ve found a new way to share that info. On Saturday at 3:15 in the afternoon I’ll be exactly 2,114,294,400 seconds old. That’s as in over two billion! Time’s certainly a funny thing, especially when you start looking at it a second at a time. But as I’ve always heard, one should enjoy life one-day-at-a-time. As for me, I’m going one-second-at-a-time.

The old sitcoms are a lot of fun to watch and I love some like I Love Lucy and The Munsters which I see regularly. I love Stephen King so i have to give the Institute a try.

I’ve always liked it. I remember reading it in 5th grade and my teacher going, “Are you supposed to be reading that?” My parents never stopped me from reading, thank goodness.
I hope you have a great birthday!

This post is so much fun. I’ve never read IT but my husband did and said it’s one of the best books he ever read. Very gripping indeed!

I didn’t know Stephen King wrote IT. I’m a big chicken and don’t watch or read scary things, usually. 🙂

I’ve read a few Stephen King books. He’s definitely a worst author, but it works for him. He stories are very good and pull the reader in quite well.
