We have started wearing face masks whenever we go grocery shopping ever since the CDC started recommending for everyone to wear a face mask when out in public.
I know it’s not mandatory, but it is a choice that we made not only to protect ourselves, but also to protect the people around us since people can be asymptomatic. That’s why we are into wearing masks when in public. Though not ill ourselves, we could be unknowingly carrying and spreading the virus.
We have no symptoms or anything and have been practicing social distancing seriously. Since the pandemic started, we’ve only went out to go grocery shopping every two weeks and that’s it.
The last time we went grocery shopping was last week, and I was surprised to see a lot of people still not wearing masks. We even saw a young couple with a baby…all of them not wearing any face coverings at all.
But then again, it’s not mandatory so it is their choice to wear one or not.
I’ve read one comment from a person on Facebook saying that not wearing a mask is being disrespectful.
Another one says it’s being selfish.
And I agree with them.
What if you are asymptomatic? Then you are spreading the virus without knowing it.
Let’s say you are in a very good shape or excellent health, so then you are not worried if you’ll be affected by the virus, right? But what about those who are around you that are vulnerable?
Also, COVID-19 affects people differently. There were individuals who are considered to be in the high risk category who have recovered. But there were also young individuals who didn’t make it, sadly.
The number of deaths is heartbreaking. I couldn’t even believe the numbers sometimes.
This is our new normal whenever we go grocery shopping. We wear these surgical face masks and we wear latex gloves too.
I’ve had these face masks in my bathroom sink drawer for two years now. They were leftovers from my Mom. I brought some with me on our trip back to the U.S. from the Philippines because on our way there, our son kept on sneezing on our flight from Chicago to HongKong. I thought we should wear one on our way back. Our son did, but he Hubs and I didn’t.
We are aware of cross-contamination too so when we go to the grocery store, even though we wear those gloves, we make sure not to touch anything else other than the cart and the groceries.
I hand wash those surgical face masks after we use them for the day and air dry them. I actually didn’t know you could do that until I saw it on TV because all the while I thought you have to dispose them after every use.
How about you? What are your thoughts about wearing masks? I would love to hear your honest opinion about it.

I say, do what you’re comfortable with. If wearing a mask helps you feel better in the chaos, go for it. I haven’t been going out too much but it makes me so nervous.

Yes, I’ve been wearing my mask when I go out. It’s mandatory in Texas if you’re in stores. I do not wear it when I’m jogging though. If I pass a person I make sure to have a wide berth.

We live in NY, so it is mandatory. We have been wearing them anyway. It’s not a big deal, so why not be careful around others? It is important to be considerate of everyone and do our part to help make this a better situation.

Although we rarely go out (just to the grocery store occasionally), we were using masks as soon as the CDC suggested that the general population should. I agree with other that say it is rude and selfish not to wear a mask.
If I go for a walk, I will take my mask in case there is an area that has other people nearby.
Why take chances with someone else’s health? It isn’t about freedom, it is about being responsible.

Because of my weakened immune system, I haven’t even gone into a store in about two months. My husband does all of the outside errands these days but I’m hoping things will start improving us.

It bothers me that folks don’t wear masks because you’re not sure you have the virus until you begin to show symptoms.

I agree with you! I went to Costco a few weeks ago and had an awful experience. So many people weren’t wearing masks and not practicing social distancing.
