I am out of active dry yeast and the grocery stores are out of it, too.
I so wanted to have freshly baked bread a few days ago so I wondered…is it possible to bake bread without yeast?
I have baked breads previously like the Pan de Coco (Coconut Bread) and Sourdough Bread and they both needed active dry yeast.
So I googled no yeast bread and I was actually amused and delighted to have found out that you can actually do it.
Thing is, my attempt of baking without using yeast wasn’t successful.
But I am sharing it here, anyway so maybe you could learn from my experience.
So this was what my no yeast bread looked like.
I followed the recipe except for the fact that I used my new toy a.k.a. my stand mixer to knead the dough instead of using my hands.
I am not sure if that was the problem why my bread didn’t look like the recipe I followed, though.
But her bread sure looks a lot better than mine.
It tasted like bread alright but the texture was so dense it was actually tough.
I still enjoyed a few bites, but I know it wasn’t the tasteful experience it was meant to be.
Then again, I am just starting to learn the art of baking and I am not an expert at all.
But practice makes perfect, right?
Now I’m thinking if I’ll try my luck again in making the no yeast bread or I’ll just order active dry yeast online and prepare a different kind of bread because the ones where I used yeast were a-okay.
We’ll see.
Here’s the recipe that I followed.
Have you tried baking no-yeast bread before? How did it go? Tell me about it. I would love to hear your story.

We just recently found some yeast at BJ’s. Although we don’t bake bread a lot, we make homemade pizza once a week. I hope you are able to find some soon. The recipe looks pretty good, so it is surprising that it didn’t turn out the same. Maybe it is important to knead by hand for this recipe.

Too bad, we don’t have BJ’s here. Hubby already ordered yeast online and I’m so Looking forward to receiving it soon. But I may have to try making this again and I’ll use my hands instead of the mixer this time. 🙂
I have a live sourdough starter in my fridge so I haven’t had to search for yeast. I did have trouble finding flour in April, but our stores seem to have everything in stock again.
That’s too bad it didn’t work out. Congrats on the new mixer though. 🙂
Thank you! It was a Mother’s Day gift from my son. 🥰
I was wondering a lot of times if a no yeast bread could be ok. Thanks for answering to this question and share with us!
