Ensaymada is one of my favorite Filipino breads. It has a sweet taste to it because of the sugar on top and who doesn’t love some cheese on their bread?
I remember when I’d go to any bakery in my hometown and ensaymada would always be my first choice if they had it. So after baking up a storm during this quarantine season, I put it on my list of breads to make.
I have already shared a few different kinds of breads that I baked here on the blog. You can find the links to those posts at the bottom of this post.
And if you have already seen them, I mentioned in one or two of my posts that I was going to bake ensaymada and I finally got to do it last week.
I found the recipe online and it was easy enough to follow, but the thing is, it doesn’t taste like the ensaymada that I remember. Or maybe the bakeries in my hometown had a special kind of recipe that was only available to them?
These sweet brioche rolls are delicious, though. My hubby said so too.
And I may have done something not quite right because compared to the recipe that I followed, her rolls looked more fluffy than mine. But I still like how mine turned out and have been enjoying them.
Here’s the recipe that I followed in case you want to give it a try too.
I saw another ensaymada recipe online that looks different than this. I will try that one next time.
Have you been baking lately too? What have you baked? I’d love to know.
Happy Foodie Friday, friends! Enjoy the weekend!

As a baker, it’s so satisfying making a good bread dough. I’ve only ever made dairy-free bread, but this one looks so good! I need to try it.

Love this bread. Mostly because I am a big cheese lover, but the sweet touch is also great.

I love that you learned to make this during the shutdown. Now you have a great new skill and it’s something positive to look back on.

I do bake breads a lot. I’ve never tried ensaymada before but I know it’s the same as some of the recipes I have, the only difference will be the toppings.

I love ensaymada, yung buttery and creamy with lots of cheese. Now I want some rolls to go along with my coffee.

Hi Talya. I usually have them with coffee in the morning or with juice or water for snack.

I love baking when my pain levels aren’t too high. I’ve never tried making breads but I’m tempted to make some homemade yeast rolls.
