A new month of adventures! Currently, I’ve been…
Reading…
…another great biography by one of my all-time favorite writers, William Manchester. I’m reading for probably the dozenth time, American Caesar, the life story of Douglas MacArthur, 1880-1964, undoubtedly one of the greatest military leaders and heroes of our storied history.
Not only was Manchester a great writer, he was truly a historian and a researcher par excellence.
Another of his magnificent works was a three volume biography of Winston Churchill which, unfortunately, he was unable to finish due to health issues. He worked on the final volume and had most of the research done and had written approximately 100,000 words before his death. He had already chosen his friend Paul Reid to complete the book if he didn’t make it and Reid did an excellent job in finishing Manchester’s trilogy.
Watching…
…a fascinating series on Netflix, Outlander.
Based on a series of novels of the same name, it takes place in 18th century Scotland and deals with Jacobite Risings, also known as the War of British Succession, in which the Scots and Irish both rebelled against the throne. I truly do find this so interesting for I’m of Scot-Irish descent.
This is not only a historical show but it definitely catches my attention for it also dwells in a fantasy and time-travel realm, another of my loves.
Enjoying…
…the sights of nature.
In my job as a security officer, I’ve recently been posted at an interesting site.
What that has to do with the sights of nature is the fact that this site is basically almost a boondocks place, though it’s in the middle of a highly populated area. The area I patrol is a forested area, and there are plenty of critters hanging around.
Just the other day, a mama bear and cub visited me at the guard house. Also, on my driving rounds, I’ve several times come across herds of deer. There’s also wild turkeys wandering around, along with the usual squirrels found wherever there are trees.
On coming across these critters, I’ve yet to be able to get to my phone and take some photos. Hopefully, I’ll soon be able to do so and, if so, I’ll certainly share them with you here.
