Happy Monday! How was your Christmas celebration? I hope it was merry.
Our Christmas was wonderful despite not having our annual get together with my in-laws on Christmas Eve. Spending Christmas Eve with them is a family tradition that once included all parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Hubby sure misses those times but it’s now down to just the two brothers and their immediate family. But we decided to be safe rather than sorry. We can’t take any chances knowing that we have members in the family who belong to the higher risk category.
For our Christmas Eve dinner, we ordered the chef prepared holiday meal that is good for 2-4 persons from Harris Teeter, and added a chicken platter and a dessert. It was our first time to order from them and they did not disappoint.
Here were the yummies that we filled our tummies with.
Chicken Fingers
My son is huge fan of chicken so I made sure to get a chicken dish. It came with a Dijon mustard sauce.
Honey Glazed Ham
Ham equals Christmas. Even back home in the Philippines, we almost always had ham for Christmas.
Green Bean Casserole
The holiday meal comes with four side dishes and this is just one of them. Loved how creamy this was.
Mashed Potatoes
Got to have the mashed potatoes for the hubs. He loves them so.
Carrot Souffle’
It was our first time to have carrot souffle’ and we really enjoyed it. It was so flavorful.
Stuffing
The stuffing that we had on Thanksgiving was different, but I must say this one tasted better.
European Torte Tray
I am so glad I picked this dessert. It is so decadent.
I also made Filipino-style macaroni salad which we always had growing up. And I baked some chocolate crinkle cookies as well and gave our neighbor some.
It was indeed a Christmas Eve feast or what we call as Noche Buena back in my home country.
And, it started snowing on Christmas Eve so it was a white Christmas for us. It seldom happens in our neck of the woods. In fact, it was 10 years ago the last time we had a white Christmas which was mine and my son’s first Christmas here in the U.S. So it was such a delight as well as a delightful nostalgic memory!
So yes, despite it being different, it was still a wonderful Christmas for us and we couldn’t be more grateful.
