Christmas starts in September in the Philippines and although you don’t see Christmas decor like this in September yet, you would already hear Christmas carols playing on radio stations and you would already see Christmas decor and gifts for sale in stores.
These photos that were courtesy of my Aunt were taken in one of the big malls in my hometown of General Santos City on the island of Mindanao, or what is popularly known as GenSan for short and dubbed as the Tuna Capital of not only the Philippines but of the world!
How gorgeous is that?!
The malls in GenSan usually put up elaborate Christmas displays and they always look amazing.
I love the addition of those animals. I sure have never thought of adding giraffes, an elephant or a lion around a Christmas tree. I never considered any animal other than reindeer to denote Christmas but this is such a fantastic idea and kids love animals.
This mall, called SM Mall of GenSan, opened a few years ago while I was here in the U.S. We went there when we had our vacation a few years ago but I’ve never got to see it decked out for the holidays so I can’t help but share this here on our blog for all of you to see.
Here’s my Aunt together with my two nieces. As you can see, they’re not only wearing masks but face shields as well because that is what’s required by the city government.
I’m glad to see them still enjoying Christmastime even during this pandemic, like what we are doing here. You sure still can have a great Christmas, just make sure to remember your responsibilities as a person or as a citizen of your country to help not spread Covid-19.
11 days ’til Christmas. Are you excited? I sure am! 🙂

That tree is stunning! And if my toddler saw those giraffes she would freak!
The holiday decor is so beautiful. I would love to see this in person.
