The year 2020 surely wasn’t the year we all wanted. But all we could do was deal with the circumstances that was given to us, unfolding before our very eyes.
So instead of sulking in the corner, we chose to see the silver lining of what was a strange year, a year that we didn’t expect and a year that we knew could change our lives in an instant.
So here’s how our 2020 went.
We spent more time as a family than ever before. We celebrated milestones in quarantine-style and since we couldn’t travel, we made use of our time doing DIY projects and we couldn’t be more pleased with the things that we have accomplished.
Let me tell the story per month, in case you missed them. And you may click the link below each photo to see all the shenanigans per month, from family fun, to books and of course, food, etc.
January
The beginning of the year always feels like a fresh start. I created goals and am happy to report that I did good. More on that later. Then, by the end of January, the world grieved because of the tragic death of Kobe Bryant. For days, I couldn’t believe that it happened.
We love watching movies either at home or in theaters. So I made a list of must-see movies in 2020 that we would love to see in theaters, and it never happened. We didn’t get to see any of those movies because the pandemic happened.
On this month, I also baked bread for the first time ever. I am going to make a post for all the breads that I baked last year in one post. So watch out for that; if you love baking, that is.
February
February marked the last time we dined in a restaurant in 2020. And that was to celebrate Hubby’s birthday. We also got to eat out for our wedding anniversary before that. We love to eat out, but we chose not to take chances after that.
March
The first time we celebrated a birthday quarantine-style and that was for our son’s birthday. Around the middle of this month, remote learning started and although it was totally different for our son, he managed to get through it.
We also started doing DIY projects this month while quarantining. We did some updates around the house and did some organizing too.
April
Since restaurants were closed and only accepted delivery or pick-up orders, we started ordering food from our fave restaurants using a food delivery app. Since then, we have lost track of how many times we have used the app. It’s such a convenient way to get food, not to mention, we’re glad to help individuals (they’re called dashers) who needs to earn a little extra delivering food.
May
What used to be a weekly trip to the supermarket became a bi-weekly rendezvous. And we have never seen our fridge so full like that like it’s almost bursting at the seams. We have already returned to our weekly trip to the supermarket now.
I truly believe on how masks help to slow down the spread of virus and I wrote about my take on that. We’ve been wearing masks since the time our state started requiring it and up to now.
Mother’s Day was celebrated quarantine-style as expected but, as usual, my husband and son never failed to make me feel so loved and special. My son even gave me an awesome gift.
June
By this time, the supermarkets are running out of flour or bread flour and yeast. Seemed like everybody was baking up a storm.
We celebrated the man of the house with good food and sweet surprises and of course, while quarantining.
July
I baked a lot of bread this month than I’d ever done before. And they’re all Filipino breads that I really loved back in my hometown.
August
I continued my baking adventures during this month. If you didn’t already know, I have never tried baking until I got here in the U.S. and last year was the year that I really baked a lot.
Like I mentioned earlier, we did a lot of organizing and updating. So I shared the goodies that we got on Amazon for those.
A blogger asked me how I season my cast-iron skillet, so I shared my tips and tricks on that, too.
September
My birth month. And we enjoyed seafood to our hearts’ content.
October
We got to go on our only road trip of the year and enjoyed nature and beautiful fall colors. That was such an amazing trip.
November
We didn’t want to take any chances so we celebrated Thanksgiving here at home and we enjoyed a feast.
I also started sharing my holiday gift guides on this month.
December
Just like Thanksgiving, we also chose to stay here at home on Christmas Eve but still had a great time enjoying it within our little family while enhancing the celebration with an amazing feast.
Christmas morning was also fun as usual. Seeing the delight on each other’s faces while opening gifts is always priceless.
All being said, 2020 wasn’t a bad year for us. We didn’t get to travel in the summer, but we were able to accomplish a lot of DIY projects. We didn’t get to be with our in-laws during the holidays, but we still enjoyed our time together here at home, just the three of us. We had food at the table and the three of us are healthy and I couldn’t be more grateful for that.
But I have high hopes for this year. I hope we all get vaccinated and don’t have to wear masks anymore. Mine and my son’s U.S. passports just arrived so I hope we get to travel somewhere this year, too.
Here’s praying that 2021 will be a return-to-normal year for us all.
How about you? How was 2020 for you?

This was a fun look back and I recall a lot of your posts and recipes. I have to say 2020 was not all bad and I did get to spend a lot of quality family time.

You had a lot of tasty looking food in 2020! It certainly was a crazy year. I do hope the virus can at least be mostly gone this year.

It was nice to experience 2020 through your eyes. I always enjoy seeing how other people experience things I have experienced.

It looks like you had some special moments in 2020! We stayed home except for doctor’s appointments and essential errands (we wear masks!) We were lucky that we were able to see our granddaughter a few times (she was born in April) but haven’t seen her since October as COVID is on the rise.
We are looking forward to being able to get out safely and visit with loved ones in the future.

2020 sure wasn’t what we all had hoped for. It was very different for me as well. The kids had to finish school off at home, and even now they’re still doing home schooling. I just hope for a better year even though things are already crazy already.
