I know how beneficial having a college degree is. That’s why I made sure to go to college right after high school and after four years of hard work and perseverance, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree. I encourage my son to do the same. He’s now a senior in high school here in North Carolina, and we’re anxious for him to start college soon. Going to college can be expensive, but I’m not letting that notion discourage us in pursuing our dreams for him nor let his dreams for himself die because we do believe that if there’s a will, then there’s a way. One of the ways is the FAFSA® or Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It provides access to over $150 billion in grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study funds from the federal government. It is an opportunity for students to pursue their dream with reduced or no debt. Some of this federal aid is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis so you could be missing out on financial aid if you wait to fill out the FAFSA®. It’s better to complete the application at the earliest possible time. If unsure of your eligibility for federal contributions, go ahead and complete the application form to find what help you could receive. In conjunction with the FAFSA® application, myFutureNC is a statewide nonprofit organization that is focused on educational attainment, and whose goal is to increase the number of high school seniors who complete the FAFSA® application. They believe that a better-educated North Carolina is the key to economic prosperity for all. College is very important because many occupations expect education beyond the norm. That makes it critical that you acquire a credential or degree to reach your goal in today’s world of employment and a successful career in life as a whole. My son has already decided on what he plans to do after high school. He’s going to a community college and he has already chosen which one. We’re eager to start the application soon for college and we are also looking forward to a school Zoom meeting in regards to the “hows of the college application” as well as FAFSA®. I’m anxious but also so excited for him. Parents can find resources on myFutureNC, including a Myths vs. Facts which is very helpful in answering questions about the FAFSA®. Completing the FAFSA® application is your first step to college and pursuing your dream. Always aim high! You can learn more about FAFSA® here or through CFNC.org.

I remember filling out the FAFSA when I was in college. Hard to believe that I will be doing it again for my daughter in just a few years.

This post is giving me flashbacks! My husband and I are so close to paying off our student loans! Can’t wait! Then we have 529’s for our girls so that their college will be paid for and they won’t have to take out headache loans!

I was lucky because my daughter got a full scholarship.
My son has high aspirations and is looking at Ivy League which can be quite pricey

Glad to hear about that. And your son did the right choice. Good luck to all of you.

This is very interesting, I may say it’s a great initiative for this organization to help an individual to decide what he/she wants to achieve and develop for his/her future livelihood.

We have awhile before we think about colleges but it’s never too early to start saving that’s for sure. I’m hoping mine will get scholarships.
