It was on Easter Sunday that I thought of trying something new to eat for dinner. I was browsing our favorite food delivery app when I came across, Yum Sushi Burrito and Poke’, a restaurant that serves Hawaiian style cuisine. I’ve heard of and seen poke’ on TV before, but I hadn’t ever tried it. So I decided to try this restaurant and here were the goodies that I ordered that we all shared.
Brown Rice Poke’ Bowl
They actually call this dish the Big Wave. It has grilled chicken, grilled steak, shrimp tempura, carrots, purple cabbage, cherry tomato and pineapple chili. Those kinds of vegetables always appeal to me. And of course the grilled chicken and steak too. But I had no idea that it would be so spicy. I am okay with just a little bit of spicy, but this one was way too much for me. The vegetables were not spicy, though. Only the chicken. So I skipped the chicken and eat the veggies and steak. I gave the shrimp tempura to my son and the hubs finished the rest. It was good, just too spicy for my delicate tongue and tummy.
Shrimp Shumai
These are shrimp dumplings that were deep fried and served with sriracha aioli and unagi sauce. We enjoyed this dish a lot. So good!
This reminds me of my Mom. She used to prepare shrimp shumai for us. The only difference was…they were steamed, not deep fried.
Fried Pork Gyoza
These are pork dumplings that were deep fried and served with sriracha aioli and unagi sauce. My son ordered this for himself but I had a bite, and this was good too.
I’m not sure if all their poke’ bowls are spicy. I may have to call them next time I order to be sure.
Have you tried Hawaiian style cuisine before? Or have you eaten poke’? Do tell me about it.

I am familiar with the shumai and the gyoza. My family loves them. I have not tried the poke bowls though. I will look for a recipe for that.

So tasty looking, especially the gyoza and shumai. Yum. I do love poke, though I don’t eat it often enough. I love the fresh flavors and tangy sauce.

Yum. It all looks super delicious. I’m a fan of spicy stuff but I don’t like it where it leaves my mouth on fire afterwards. I definitely want to try the shrimp.
