Give credit where credit is due. So I have to thank the hubs for preparing this delicious Swiss Steak. I’d never had this dish until I got here to the U.S. The hubs was the one who introduced this dish to me and I love it. This dish is so delicious!
His Mom was a good cook and in creating this dish, he followed his Mom’s recipe. She had a collection of recipes written on recipe cards and tucked in a plastic recipe box. My husband has kept it all these years after she passed away. Good boy!
And it’s been from that sacred – to him– box of what he considers his childhood recipes that the hubs introduced me to the country-style cooking of the Western North Carolina mountains, including southern fried chicken and his Mom’s special meat loaf.
We don’t have cube steak back in the Philippines so this kind of steak was new to me.
I like how tender the cube steak is in this dish. It almost melts in your mouth actually. And although I like pairing almost every viand with rice, I like egg noodles with this.
Here’s the recipe that my husband followed in case you want to try it yourself.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. cube steak
- 1 can (14.5 oz.) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large red onion, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 3 tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 cup water
Instructions:
- In a bowl, mix flour and salt.
- Coat cube steak with the mixture.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil in medium-high heat.
- Sear cube steak until brown on each side.
- Add garlic, diced tomatoes and tomato sauce.
- Add onion, bell pepper and water.
- Bake in oven set at 350° F for one hour.
- Serve with egg noodles.
- Enjoy!
Trust me, this is so good!
Happy Foodie Friday, friends!

I can understand your thoughts about beef available in the Philippines. It is difficult to get good quality beef here. If ever you find some, it is so darn expensive. I will save your recipe though. I will see if I can get some Angus beef at the store this weekend.

I’d love this steak, too! The noodles with steak combo is something new to me and I’d try that. But being Filipino, I couldn’t resist having this with rice.

Looks wonderful and I too am from the south so chicken fried steak and Swiss steak were staples in my home growing up. I love the cubed steak and my aunt used to make it the best. Thanks for sharing and will have to make this for my family.
