There are many beautiful bridges to see in Charleston, but these were the only ones that we saw during our recent trip there and I can’t help but share about them because they are definitely a must-see. We don’t have beautiful bridges like these in our area so it’s always a delight for us to see such magnificent beautiful constructions.
We also saw Talmadge Memorial Bridge in Savannah before which was also a beauty. And another one in Baltimore, but I didn’t get to take a snap shot of that one. We also saw the Brooklyn and George Washington bridges on our Christmas trip to NYC, though we didn’t get to cross them. The Hubs also got to cross the original Tappan Zee Bridge a few years ago, just north of Manhattan, before it was replaced.
Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge
The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge is the bridge that connects Mount Pleasant to Charleston. We stayed at a hotel in Mount Pleasant and we had to drive over this bridge to Downtown Charleston to see Rainbow Row.
This is a cable-stayed bridge over the Cooper River and the third longest cable-stayed bridge in the Western Hemisphere.
The construction for this bridge started in 2001 and it opened on July 16, 2005.
This is such a beautiful bridge and it actually still looked so new like it was only built a few months ago.
Don N. Holt Bridge
Driving from North Carolina, the Don N. Holt Bridge was the first bridge that we saw and drove over on our way to our hotel in Mount Pleasant. But we could see the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge from a distance to our right.
It is a parallel chord, three-span continuous, modified Warren-type truss bridge. It opened on March 10, 1992 and it connects Charleston and North Charleston over the Cooper River.
I love the vibrant blue color of this bridge. A unique color for a bridge, for sure. I’ve never seen such a colorful bridge before, I must say.
Have you seen any of these bridges in Charleston? I would love to hear your story.

I’ve never been to Charleston, but I’ve always thought I could be in interesting place to visit. But now I’ve followed the goose to Europe, so alas, I’ll probably never get to Charleston 🙁
