For the last few weeks, I have been telling stories about our recent trip to Charleston, South Carolina, to celebrate my birthday. To sum it all up, here’s my Charleston Travel Guide.
The Avenue of Oaks is such a breathtaking site.
How to Get There
You can fly or drive. There are connecting flights from Asheville, North Carolina, to Charleston with a layover in Charlotte, North Carolina, but we prefer driving since we love road trippin’. Besides, Charleston is just a little more than 200 miles or more or less a 4-hour drive from our location.
Where to Stay
Hyatt Place Mount Pleasant Towne Centre. I’m the one in charge of where we are going to stay in our travels. After we have decided on what to do in Charleston and finding out that most of them are located in Mount Pleasant, I opted for this hotel and it did not disappoint. It’s nice and clean and it’s located in a Town Center, thus the many establishments that you could check out and enjoy like restaurants, clothing stores, etc., without having to drive. The hotel also offers free parking and free breakfast so those were a plus.
Below is a picture of our room with the hubs as model. 🙂
There are also a lot of hotels in Downtown Charleston if you prefer to stay downtown. But this hotel is only about a 10 minute drive to downtown.
Where to Eat
P.F. Chang’s. For us, this restaurant is one of the best Asian restaurants that we have been to. We really enjoyed our dinner that night plus the sweet surprise that the waiter gave me. It’s located in the Town Center so we just had to walk.
First Watch. This was recommended by my son’s friend who lives in Richmond, Virginia. We don’t have this restaurant here in our city so we tried it and they sure did not disappoint. Such a delicious breakfast we had for my birthday.
Vickery’s Bar & Grill. Located at Shem Creek, you not only enjoy good Southern food here but also amazing waterfront views. We even got to see dolphins. Such a great dinner with a view.
What To Do
Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens. Such a beautiful place to explore and learn about history. We spent most of our day here for my birthday and were amazed. I would love to go back.
Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. I refer to this place as the place for my boys and their big-boy toys. 🙂 This is home to three museum ships and so full of history as well. You can’t help but be amazed of all the things they have in this place. You get to enjoy beautiful views of the harbor, too.
Rainbow Row. This is one of the most photographed parts of the city and I now know why. Those 13 houses painted in pastel colors are such a beauty.
Drive Over Beautiful Bridges. The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge which connects Charleston and Mount Pleasant is such a beauty. You have to experience driving over it. Same with Don N. Holt Bridge. Love the blue color.

I hope this Charleston Travel Guide is helpful and I hope you get to visit Charleston, South Carolina, someday and enjoy these places as much as we did.
