Puto Cheese is one of our favorite Filipino snacks. I’d never tried preparing this before because my Mom’s friend, who was also our neighbor in my hometown, had a baking business and this was one of the goodies that she baked. So we just usually ordered these from her.
But I have to do it here myself in the U.S. Thing is, I don’t have to bake it from scratch because there is a box of Puto Cheese that is readily available in a Filipino store online. It’s actually easy to bake it from scratch too, based on the recipe that I saw online, but I decided to try this boxed product first.
I have already shared about this treat on my Currently post so you may have seen it already if you were here on Monday.
My son has been bugging me to make these but I didn’t have the molds until my sister-in-law in Canada shared that the molds that she had been using were available on Amazon.
Here’s how I did these Puto Cheese:
Ingredients:
- 1 box of Puto mix as shown above
- 3/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- Water for steaming
Instructions:
- Let water boil in a steamer.
- Prepare Puto as per box instructions.
- Pour the mixture into molds. (I used small sized molds.)
- Arrange molds in a steamer and steam as per box instructions. You may have to do this in batches because all the molds will not fit in one batch.
- Once cooked, take the Puto out of the steamer and top with cheese while still hot.
- Let the Puto cool down before removing using a spatula.
- Serve and enjoy!
Fresh from the steamer.
This Puto mix is not bad at all. It was m,y first time to try this product and it did not disappoint. Even my husband who had it for the first time liked it.
Happy Foodie Friday, friends!
