Odong noodles, sautéed, with sardines was one of my favorites to cook for dinner back when I was still in the Philippines. All of us in the family loved the dish and were delighted to see it on the dinner table. But when I got here in the U.S., I couldn’t find the odong noodles in the foreign food section at any of the stores we shopped . But recently, after I googled, I found them at an online Filipino store. I ordered them immediately and here they are.
You can hardly see the sardines in these photos because I crushed them. But the taste of the sardines was sure there.
I used all the odong noodles that I ordered, but I’m going to order a batch of Filipino goodies again soon which will include even more odong noodles, for sure, and stock up for the long haul.
Here’s how I prepared this dish. It so simple and so easy.
Ingredients:
- I can (155 g) sardines
- 12 packets Odong
- I medium-sized onion, chopped
- 2 tsp garlic, minced
- Water
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Saute’ garlic until golden brown.
- Add in onion and cook until translucent.
- Add the sardines and break down to pieces.
- Add water and let boil.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Add noodles.
- Add more water if necessary until noodles are cooked.
- Serve with steamed rice if desired.
I also used a Filipino brand of sardines named Ligo that I also ordered online, and I chose the one in tomato sauce. I could have used a brand found in the U.S. supermarkets, but I prefer the Filipino brand for this.
We always pair this with steamed rice. And I’m craving for this dish again just by looking at it!
Have you tried having odong noodles with sardines before? Tell me about it in the comments below.
