I got the idea for this sautéed red cabbage on TikTok. We just always have the green cabbage that we use in stews. When I found out that red cabbage has more nutrients than the green one, I knew I had to grab me some. The creator on TikTok put it in a salad. I decided to sauté mine.
I always make sure to have vegetables as side in our meals other than steamed rice.
What I love about this sautéed red cabbage is that it is so easy to make with a very few ingredients, and yet it so delicious. Not to mention, so healthy too.
Apparently, the hubs never had red cabbage before. Actually, he was totally unfamiliar with red cabbage. Growing up here as a country boy of Irish descent in the mountains of Western North Carolina, his biggest experience with cabbage of the green variety was when it was shredded and mixed with mayonnaise to create cole slaw as a side, or to go on his favorite chilli covered hot dogs, not a traditional Irish dish. Early in his life he was unaware of his deep Irish lineage, other than a love of potatoes, that is, only to be discovered when ancestry research was done.
Now if only our son would also eat it. He is still picky when it comes to vegetables, but hopefully, he’ll eventually love this healthy side dish.
There are many ways to prepare this sautéed red cabbage. Some recipes just add more seasonings to it. Mine is so simple but I really enjoyed the simplicity.
Here’s how I prepared it.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 Red cabbage, cut into strips
- Salt
- Pepper
- Everything But the Bagel Seasoning
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Instructions:
- Heat skillet on medium-high heat. Add olive oil.
- Stir in red cabbage when oil is hot.
- Season generously with salt, pepper, and everything but the bagel seasoning.
- Stir until cabbage is cooked.
- Serve!
Look how delicious that looks!

My grandma used to buy purple cabbage. I remember eating it plain. But I haven’t purchased any cabbage in years. Sautéing it sounds like a great idea especially with a bit of bacon grease.
